Giants rookie defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins and Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor were teammates for one season at Ohio State.
On Sunday, they’ll face each other in the NFL for the first time.
“I’m real excited to go against him,” Hankins said Friday. “I never really got the chance to hit him (in college). If I get the chance, I’m definitely going to let him know I’m there.”
Hankins, a second-round pick, is expected to be activated this week after veteran Shaun Rogers (knee) was placed on season-ending injured reserve Thursday. Although Hankins has been impressive, he hasn’t been able to crack the defensive tackle rotation.
In his most extensive action, Hankins had five tackles – all solo – in the Giants’ 36-21 loss to the Eagles on Oct. 6. He spent most of the afternoon in the Eagles’ backfield and was thought to have earned more playing time.
But he has seen only limited action in two of the three games since.
“It’s been tough,” said Hankins, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound run stuffer. “I’ve been talking to coach (defensive line coach Robert Nunn) and the guys. It’s not always going to be handle to or given to you.
“You have to learn how to work for it. I’ve been practicing my butt off every single week as if I was going to play. So this week if my name is called, which I think it may be, I’m going to go out there and give it my all.”
