Conn Smythe Winner 2009

Chris Osgood, assuming Detroit wins the cup.

This

If the Penguins pull it out of their ass, it should be Sid or Geno. I say Sid, because he's been more valuable over the entire course of the playoffs (on both ends of the ice). Also, if the Pens win, Crosby will have to play better than he has. He's still played at a high level - but not high enough to beat a better team.

I don't think Sid gets it this year. Unless he absolutely blows up in the next 2 games and single handily leads the pens to victory I think it's Malkin's to lose on the side of the pens. He just hasn't done anything of note so far in this series.

He's done everything except score like Malkin. In every other aspect he's been better.

Not really Malkin has been much better at back checking and holding on to the puck. He hasn't been completely shutdown he's made some burst which resulted in scoring chances but he hasn't done been impressive in this series. He flashes then disappears for long stretches tof time more like a role player then a playoff points leader and conn smythe candidate.

I disagree, but I've already had this debate with someone on the forums. Crosby's still out there making plays and is as noticeable as ever, just not on the score sheet. Guerin and Kunitz are having a bad SCF, Crosby can do nothing about this that he's not already doing. He's not a goal scorer, he's a playmaker.

I agree that he's not playing as well as he was. If the Conn Smythe were only SCF MVP it'd be Malkin's for sure. But Crosby was the MVP without any doubt before this series. For the Pens to win, Crosby is going to have to get back to that level, like I said. He'll deserve the Conn Smythe if the Pens win, because he's going to have to blow up again.

Check out Malkin's +/- for the playoffs, it's only +2. Crosby's is +10.

I'd have to say if the situations were reversed and the penguins were the powerhouse but the Wings were the underdog and this series went 7 and the Wings still lost the way they did, Osgood gets the Conn Smythe.

I think Malkin got it (and he deserved it don't get me wrong) because the Wings were pretty heavy favorites coming in and choked on it. Hell if Osgood doesn't play like an MVP this series, I think the Pens might have won it in 5 considering.

I'm not superstitious, but I don't take unnecessary risks.

I'm taking credit for a reverse-vBet hex that worked. Between betting on Osgood, the game 7 thread, and the exact score thread, I lost v$150 Million last night - but it was worth it to counteract BMike80's negative posting reverse-hex.
