Not to get too off topic, but I love all the "WHY CAN'T WE OPEN UP THE PLAYBOOK??!!!!11" rhetoric, just two games into a season with a new offense.

Have these people watched one goddamn minute of last season? Tressel will open it up when he feels his players are ready.

Have I stumbled in to 2004?

Bollman has been and will continue to be one of the Buck's most significant obstacles. When I look at this schedule there's no reason to not run the table. The OP asked, "who do you think is our biggest challenge?" I simply don't see our biggest challenge to be an opponent during our OOC and B10 play. We have boatloads of talent relative to our competition and one of the top five coaches in CFB.

Please, tell me I am wrong and have been since 2000. I want to believe I am wrong. I want to believe we really don't have any O line talent and Bollman is exceeding expectations. Or, I want to believe that our running backs lack vision, strength and drive to take advantage of the amazing job our offensive line does day in, day out whether they are banging in B10 play, OOC play, against 1AA or Florida.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Bucks and the results but at the same time I want to see us succeed every game in every phase. I know that we'll have unit failures from time to time. What I don't want to see is unit failures becoming trends.

Wisky, PSU, and maybe, just maybe UM because they will want to beat OSU even worse than at the start of the year now. In all honesty at PSU scares me the most, even more than Wisky because Wisky doesn't impress me defensively, and our D can stuff Hill IMO.

I repeat, PSU is the game that I'm worried about most.

I was at the ND/PSU game last night. I honestly think we are built this year to beat PSU. Our defense will be ready for Morelli & Co.

The last two years they were plays Troy couldn't make due to Tom Bradley's defense that I think Todd will. It will still be close, to be sure, but Morelli is still their QB and we have (on paper) more talent at RB and O line.

Good thing he has completely fooled 3 of the best OL prospects in the nation...

Pittman ran for 1300+ in 05...1275 in 06...Beanie chipped in 500+ last season.

Lydell Ross...the epitome of the Bollman era whipping boy...ran for 870+ in 03 and then split carries with Pittman in the 04 debacle as they combined for 900 some yards.

I just dont see where Bollman is an issue...I see him as a convenient excuse.

Not to pile on, but I agree. In the Tressel Regime, we have had 1 awful year running the football (2004) and 1 so-so year running the football (2003) - who knows how different those years are if #13 keeps his head on straight.

W/ schollie limits being what they are - MAC defenses are much better than in the 70s and 80s. This wasn't your parents' Zips Defense.

I still think we should be running ALL over Akron and YSU due to physical and talent advantages, but let's be real - those teams are selling out to stop the run and we are showing a vanilla-plain-jane-how's-your-father offense.

IMHO, Tress turns up the heat this week and the offense adds a few new wrinkles. Look at what we started out @ in early 2004 vs where we ended up...an offense that was putrid against NC State was completely different by the Michigan and Okie State games. Just ask Voyd and Less Miles.

Bollman is used as an excuse too much. However, with the preseason hype that the o-line seems to get most years, they often struggle for much longer than expected. So, although I do not think Bollman is a negative, either he or the o linemen are over-rated most years. Not that the line is bad, it's just not as dominate as we all think it will be... at least until later in the season.

This offense just doesn't look like it will be very explosive, so expecting us to win just because the defense will keep scoring by the other teams down is a misconception.
Help, yes.
But, it may not be the factor some would think.

Whatever the week, it is the next opponent on the schedule.

Yeah it does sound cliche, but who would have thought that during the regular season last year that Illinois would be the biggest challenge?

Small,Lyons, and Dukes are all injured from what I understand. Can someone tell me a team in the country that could be any good at all with three veteran WR's out and a first year starter at QB then combine that with the fact they lost their 4 best offensive player from the previous year to the NFL including the Heisman trophy winner!!!! I THOUGHT MICHIGAN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SO DAMN GOOD ON OFFENSE YET WE HAVE OUTSCORED THEM IN OUR FIRST TWO GAMES.

We don't need last years offense. We need a mistake free offense. We need our offense to grind out first downs so we can pin teams back and let our defense eat them up. We need special teams to play great and get us great field position.

If your waiting for an offense like last years your in for a long season. If you want to see one of the top 3 defenses in the country combined with the best overall special team unit in the country grind teams into dust your in for a treat.

I have only seen two team on our schedule that even make me nervous PSU and UW. We can run the table but our offense cannot turn the ball over.
