The Buckeyes were knocked off their last pedestal by falling in the latest Coaches Poll, and holding firm in the AP.

Ohio State kept the Illibuck Trophy in its rightful place in Columbus yesterday with a win over Illinois in Champaign, 28-3. Like plenty of other visits to Champaign, it was a weird game that the Buckeyes didn't look great in. As a result, the Buckeyes come in at No. 2 this week in the latest Amway Coaches Poll, a first for them this season, as well as coming in at No. 2 in the AP Poll.

In the AP Poll, Clemson remained atop the rankings for the second consecutive week. Alabama also came in at No. 3 for yet another week. Baylor dropped after their loss at home to Oklahoma, helping move Notre Dame into the top five with Oklahoma State.

Losses by Stanford, LSU, and Utah opened up things for a new bottom half of the top 10, which included Florida, and Oklahoma. North Carolina also jumped in the rankings after a blowout of Miami.

In the Coaches Poll, Clemson overcame the Buckeyes for the top spot in the poll this week, the first time the Buckeyes haven't been in the No. 1 ranking for this particular poll all season. Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five in this week's poll. Iowa came in this week at No. 6.

Baylor dropped out of the top five after a loss to Oklahoma Saturday night in Waco. As a result, the Sooners jumped in the poll to No. 7. Stanford lost, dropping them out of the top 10, and more than likely ruining their playoff hopes, along with Utah, who lost to unranked Arizona.

North Carolina leaped five spots to No. 12, as they look increasingly impressive as the season goes along. LSU dropped in the poll to No. 17 after a convincing loss to Arkansas, 31-14. Memphis dropped out of the poll after a loss to Tom Herman's Houston Cougars. Newcomers to the poll include Oregon, Washington State, Southern Cal, and Ole Miss.
