As I watched Lee leave the game after being smacked around for seven runs in his second straight start (First Indian pitcher to do that in the history of the Jake) I watched him tip his hat to the crowd in a defiantmanner because they were expressing their displeasure with yet another lackluster, if not horrible performance.
Considering the fact the Wedge has had to hold his tongue when talking about Lee and his inibility to take instruction, And considering the event with Victor Martinez a few nights ago, I would have his butt on a plane to Buffalo so fast that he would wonder what hit him.
This would serve other purposes as well. It lets everyone know that they are not assured of a spot on this team and that this management will not put up with this kind of individual. I can't help but think Of Jim Leyland early last season after losing a game to the Tribe that they had no business losing. Leyland said that was enough and he got tough at that point and things turned around for the Tigers. It's time for Wedge and Shapiro to get tough with Cliff Lee. His rotten attitude has no business on this team
I do not understand why this guy would stay on this staff. He has had one really successful year in the majors and that should not mean you are automatically assured of a roster spot.
There are three or four pitchers that can take his spot right now and certainly do no worse than he has this year.
Ideally, it would be great if the Tribe could send him packing in a trade of some kind, but I seriously doubt if anyone is going to be knocking down Shapiro's door to get this guy

Piece of shit. Send his ass to Buffalo or just release him outright. He is useless.:mad1:

Starting pitching is going to be this teams downfall and it all starts with Lee. Like LJB said, he is the worst starting pitcher in the league.

I agree that the guy blows this year and he is showing no signs of improving and is definitely getting worse. I also agree that a stint in Buffalo may be good for him or at the very least a demotion to the bully for long relief could be in order. I would like to see them bring up Adam Miller and let him have a shot.

On the flip side, I don't agree with outright releasing the guy or anything drastic like that. He has proven in years past that he can be a reliable starter and a 15 game winner. So, I think he needs to be straightened out, demoted to the Bully or Buffalo (if possible) and let him work it out where he isn't going to get the Tribe killed in the process. We'll see what happens. I can't see Shappy or Wedge just sitting pat on this issue.

The Red Sox hammered Lee for seven runs and nine hits in four innings, and as he jogged from the field to loud boos in the fifth, the left-hander sarcastically removed his cap and saluted his critics.
In Lee's previous start, he argued with catcher Victor Martinez in the dugout shortly after beaning Texas slugger Sammy Sosa . Lee fell to 0-4 with an 11.70 ERA in his past four starts, a stunning decline for the former 18-game winner, who has two options left and could soon be dropped from Cleveland's rotation.

There it is. He has two options left. Get him to Buffalo ASAP. If he starts another game, I will have serious questions about Wedge's grip on reality.

adam miller is shut down for the year, and may end up having tommy john's sugery. he's out of the question. victor tore into lee's ass during his last start. if you noticed, he didn't say one word to him in the dugout during the game, the few shots they showed on STO. lee needs to be on his way to buffalo, taking mastny with him.

I'm also on the fence regarding the future employment of Carl Willis.

Cabrera needs to go too. Yeah he didn't allow a run tonight, but was still very shaky. Out of options or not, he is of no use to this team. It seems the pitching concerns we all have had are coming to a boil this month. It doesn't help that it coincides with the bats going limp. 14 hits in the last three games? WTF?

So if Cliff Lee is demoted, who takes his spot? Do they bring Sowers back for another shot? I don't see anyone else in Buffalo.
That's a good question. At this point I think an empty mop bucket would be a better option on the mound than Lee, but Sowers appears to be the only option. How has he been pitching in Buffalo?

edit: not well...1-4, 4.44, 65 hits over 52.2 innings. They might want to look at Laffey as a starter as opposed to the pen.

It just fucking figures that our top pitching prospect would have arm problems when he would really be needed. Ugh.

why not let stanford return to the rotation and bring up another guy for the bullpen?

Because he blows. I would rather roll the dice with Lee. At least he has a track record of being successful. Same goes for Sowers. The guy proved last year he could win on the MLB level. Maybe a return would give him the inspiration he needs to be consistent again.

You probably would have said the same thing about Carmona last year. I would hate to see them give up on Cabrera with the stuff he has. I'm all for sending Lee down and giving one of the pups a shot.

sowers has given up 1 earned run over his last 14 innings in buffalo. when he first got back down there he got shelled. it seems he's finally gotten himself back on track somewhat.

i would say that each gets one more start, and if sowers does well and lee blows ass again, the switch needs to be made.

Fair enough, but do you really want to keep a pitcher in the bullpen who regularly gets shelled when we're fighting for a playoff spot? He was bad last season, and is worse this year. Potential or not, he just cannot get people out. The only reason he's still on the roster is because he's out of options, and if he's here much longer, I'll have serious doubts about the organizations commitment to this season.

Glad to see he's been doing better. I just looked at his stats as a whole. Bottom line is we need somebody, anybody but Lee. I swear to God, if Lee goes out to that mound one more time as a starting pitcher, I'm done.
