Celebration penalties - thoughts

Captain Hindsight

The Hero of the Modern Age
I know it's been discussed many times, but I thought a thread on this topic would be interesting.

After the Washington bullshit, and after just seeing a pretty shitty call against the Tar Heels in the UNC-Tech game, I'm just getting sick of these calls.

Yes, a college athlete is expected to show poise, but they're young guys, and are grinding it out on the field for 60 minutes. It's pathetic that the NCAA feels a need to apply this rule.

And for those that feel that it's a good rule, take into account that you would more than likely be going crazy if you scored a big touchdown, or a touchdown, in general.

The Washington bullshit - yes, bullshit.

The call on the Heels, I agree with. Diving into the end zone, and its stupider cousin, flipping into the end zone, is showing up your opponent. (Not that I feel all that badly when VT takes a whipping.)

The rule needs major relaxing, but they should keep it in place for diving into the end zone, and especially flipping into it, which is going to get a player hurt very badly one of these days.

Hate to say it but I'm gonna agree with a tsun fan. Getting excited and flipping a ball, which by the way happened in the CMU/PU game and didn't get called, is emotion, Flipping or jumping into the endzone when it is not for the purpose of diving over a player or past one is just a pretty assholic thing to do. Flag him. Show some class, and act like you've been there before.

I agree with needing to revisit the rule. Don't remove the emotion and thrill of the game, which was clearly the ruling in the UW game. That was not showboating, just excitement. As for taunting or showing up the opponent, flag it every time.
