Call to Action: Cardways Contest

Hey, all.

You're going to be seeing a banner that invites you to send in fan pictures (you at the games, in your OSU gear all hyped up -- whatever (no nudity or kill pics, Thump)) for the sake of a contest. The winner gets $100, second place $50. This is a new campaign SportsWar has put together in cooperation with Cardways for the Big Ten sites in our network. That's us, Gopherhole.com, SpartanTailgate.com, and NittanyFootball.com. You don't have to buy anything, you don't have to jump through any crazy hoops, but you can win something, and you could also be impressing a potentially HUGE advertiser who cover everything from Miller Brewing to Wrigley's gum. While SportsWar has asked me in the past to pass along encouragement to send emails to advertisers to let them know how you appreciate their contribution (in as much as I couldn't pay for our monthly expenses myself, and our yearly drive wouldn't bring in enough to cover them -- they keep the lights on, figuratively speaking), I wanted to say something about this one myself as it just seems like a no-brainer. Impressing these folks would go a long way towards making sure we're secure not just now but down the road as well, and frankly, I want to see someone from this site take the $100. Hell, let's take the $50 too.

Just click on the following link (or on one of the banners when they show up), and create a gift card (again, you're not obligated to buy one or anything else). Select from stores like Cardways, Circuit City, Claim Jumper Restaurants, CompUSA, eBags, Edwin Watts Golf, Lids, Linens-N-Things, Lowe's, Napster, Omaha Steaks, REGISsalon, ShoeBuy.com, Travelocity, or Waterford. Then upload an OSU or BP-related picture (really anything), make a couple aesthetic choices and you're done. No picture to upload? Then you can use their clip-art.

Now, REALLY want to go above and beyond? This has little or nothing to do with the sponsorship, but I'd love to see it. These cards can be as low as a $25 value. If you appreciate what a mod, admin, or contributor does around here -- consider buying them one. I can't and don't do anything (best I've managed is some hooch for a few one Christmas, and too few at that) for the people you see here day in and day out, for reasons most of you are aware of. They not only keep BP running, but are making it better with every single day, week, month, and year that passes. I threw this place up, but it's those folks and all of you that have turned it in to what it is. It would be a great thing if even a couple of them got a card with a note just saying "thanks for what you do."

So that's my request. Just go make a card if you have a few minutes. I really hope to hear from SportsWar that we blew the other Big Ten sites out of the water, and helped secure major future campaigns with Cardways. And, if you're feeling particularly appreciative for someone around here (anyone but me, as BP has and continues to keep me going, and that's already too much) -- then consider buying what you created for someone around here.

If you don't know their address and/or don't want to ask for it, send cards here, and Joanna will make sure that everything that arrives turns around and goes out to the appropriate person.

Thanks all! Hope everyone is enjoying the season as much as I have been. Wish (sincerely) I could be around and posting more, but I do poke in now and then to fix little problems, check my PMs, see what tomfoolery is going on in the poliboards, and read Oh8's great post-game threads. I will be back with another "idea" post related to the holidays, after I bounce it off a few people and give them a chance to call me stupid. Nothing bad, just a stray thought about creating some smiles for those who need them, which is always a good thing.

Voting is up on that site (link above), and hopefully one (or more) of the Buckeye-related entries there are from BP. Either way, take a few seconds and vote so someone from the good guys can win the $100.

Keep submitting card designs! Costs nothing, takes little/no time, you don't have to sign up for or otherwise agree to anything, and it will make a big difference in terms of SportsWar nailing down future campaigns.

Someone should submit one with the BP logo.
