Cal QB likely out for the season.

Longshore was 8-for-11 for 131 yards with an interception, but Cal led just 7-3 when he got hurt and went to the locker room on a cart. The Bears originally said Longshore's ankle was sprained, but Tedford revealed his quarterback has a broken fibula.

This hurts them a lot considering their backup QBs couldn't get anything done.

Huge loss for cal, however it might not be that bad since Tedford always has a good quarterback, maybe its just a product of the system thing like bronco running backs?

Theres been a ton of hype this off season about their running back, howd he do?

They said tonight that the backup came in and immediately threw 10 straight incompletions...against Sacramento State.

Unfortunately, this is the risk you run playing a I-AA team. It's the college equivalent of the NFL preseason. Coaches feel pressure to play the superstars, at least for a while, to keep them sharp and let the fans see them, even whe they aren't necessary to win the game. The result is, like the NFL preseason, that someone important always seems to get hurt playing in one of these games. It happened to Michael Vick at Va Tech against James Madison...it happened to Ell Roberson at Kansas State...and now it bites Cal.

Powerhouse teams beware.

True, but he hardly played at all befor egetting hurt, it wasn't a case of them kept him in all game. A player needs at least some preseason time too, espicially a QB, granted 5 preaseason games for a star is probably a bit overboard but you can't really blame this one on the coach I don't think.

P.S. I was VERRRRRY relieved that we got out of that first game nearly injury free (Marcus Freeman). I think it might be the best stat of them all :)

Did you mean Nick Mangold? He went down late in the first quarter, and thats all I can remember being hurt and needing to go off the field for awhile.

Nope, I consider Nick to be okay. Marcus Freeman tore his meniscus though and will be out at least until Iowa. He was on kickoff coverage first half then didn't return at halftime.

I think Ayoob will come around and be what he was predicted to be. No one gets called the MVP of anything and the White Michael Vick for nothing.

He said himself that he's never thrown the ball as awfully in a game as he did that day. Maybe that means something, maybe it doesnt.

WOW! I have not heard about the Marcus Freeman injury. I knew Mangold came back into the game and he was ok, but didnt hear about this other injury. Was this injury during the beginning of the game? This does make sense that when they put in their second/third string Defense, true frosh James Laurinaitis was put in, instead of Freeman.
