The former Buckeye star was banished to the bench against Miami. Why?
During the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' 120-109 point loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday night, star rookie, recent number two overall pick and former Ohio State Buckeye star D'Angelo Russell did not spend a single minute on the the floor. In fact, Russell sat out the last five minutes of the third quarter, as well, when the Heat lead was just five.
The decision was so puzzling that multiple media outlets have called out Laker head coach Byron Scott for his seemingly inexplicable decisions regarding Russell's playing time so far this season (Silver Screen and Roll and Deadspin to name a few).
After the game, Russell was asked about the situation and had a simple response.
On Wednesday, Byron Scott was asked about his decision, and had the following to say.
