2027 QB Brady Edmunds sets plans to see Ohio State this fall.

It’s going to be fairly interesting to see where Ohio State ends up in the 2026 class regarding the quarterback position. Having dished out offers to many of the nation’s top targets, the Buckeyes haven’t seen a commitment yet, and the pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer considering many of their offered prospects have committed elsewhere.

With an already loaded talent pool in Columbus in addition to Tavien St. Clair headed to campus next, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ohio State losing out on these commitments with the notion that these higher-ranked signal callers don’t want to be buried on the depth chart to start their career. Maybe 2026 is a stop-gap year where a lower-ranked player is taken, and if that’s the case the depth ahead is elite. It also makes it more possible that the 2027 class once again sees that top national target become a priority.

Speaking of 2027 quarterbacks, Ohio State has already offered California native Brady Edmunds, and on Wednesday he took to his social media to share his impressive four-star ranking. The No. 14 player nationally and second best quarterback in the class per the 247Sports rankings, Edmunds already holds well over 20 offers to his name, and from many of the top schools in the country.

Edmunds has plans to see the Buckeyes up close and personal this fall when he is set to visit for the Nebraska game in late October. A win for Day and the rest of the offensive staff, having a player of this caliber on campus is always a positive, especially at a position as crucial as quarterback.

The Buckeyes will be in on several quarterbacks in the 2027 class before all is said and done, but as the next cycle in 2026 is up first, look for what happens there to help shape the future class of 2027.

It’s time to offer an Ohio native offensive lineman

It’s been a touchy subject lately when talking offensive line additions in the 2025 cycle. Not a total doom and gloom situation — at least yet — the Buckeyes do have commitments from two very solid players, but the goal of adding at least four at the spot really seems to be slipping away lately with guys committed to other programs and the potential for Ohio State to lose out on their top target, David Sanders Jr. this coming Friday.

The loss of Josh Petty to Georgia Tech earlier this week was another stinger, and seeing the NIL deal he reportedly is receiving, it’s not hard to see why Ohio State lost out on his services. Circling back to Sanders Jr., Ohio State fans are going to be up in arms if Tennessee beats out Justin Frye. Simply put, the Buckeyes need to change their ways if they’re going to keep him around.

It’s been seen how few offensive linemen the Buckeyes have offered in comparison to programs such as Alabama and Georgia, and while banking on relationships is the strategy here, when it doesn’t work, Ohio State needs to offer more guys to better their chances of landing not only the quality of player, but also the quantity they need to restock arguably the most important position group to a team’s success.

That said, seeing in-state product Adam Guthrie in the 2026 class continuing to reel in the offers, with Texas being the latest on Wednesday, it begs the question of what the Buckeyes are waiting on here?

The No. 214 player nationally and 16th best offensive tackle per the 247Sports Composite, Guthrie has over 30 offers under his belt, and not having the in-state power as one of them is interesting considering the likelihood of his interest in the Buckeyes.

An offer surely could come in the near future, but with the current state of recruiting and the need to replenish the position in the next two cycles, Ohio State and Frye can’t waste any more time.

Broaden the search and offer more players. That should be the new strategy moving forward.

After an amazing conversation with Coach Sarkisian, & Coach Flood I am very honored and blessed to have received a scholarship offer from The University of Texas #HornsUp

Quick Hits

  • Set to announce his college decision this coming Friday, four-star center Malachi Moreno will be deciding between eight finalists. The No. 26 player nationally and second best center in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite, the programs still in it include Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.

With the Buckeyes still in the mix, the likely destination per the Crystal Ball predictions is Kentucky, but it’s great to see Ohio State continually in the mix for top players regardless of what is announced on Friday.

NEWS: 7-footer Malachi Moreno, a top-25 recruit in the 2025 class, will announce his commitment on Friday at 11:00AM ET, he tells @On3Recruits.
