J.B. Shuck, a 2005 graduate of Galion High School who recently completed his junior season at Ohio State, was selected Thursday by the Houston Astros in the sixth round (No. 182 overall) of the Major League Baseball Draft.
Shuck, listed at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, was the sixth Ohio native selected. He was selected as an outfielder, though he also was a three-year starting pitcher for the Buckeyes (30-26 this season). Shuck was second on the team with a .356 average and batted in 23 runs, and he stole a team-high 22 bases in 26 attempts.
On the mound, Shuck was 5-3 with a 4.29 earned run average in 11 starts. Shuck struck out 76 batters in 65 innings and held opponents to a .216 average.
