BuckeyePlanet Spring Drive 2010 Thread
Many of you were here in 2005 when we attempted the first wide-scale fundraising effort at BuckeyePlanet for the purpose of purchasing a server. We were very successful, and a server was selected to specs recommended by the BP techie mindmeld. Dryden did much to help with the purchase and configuration of the server, and it has done us well over the ensuing years. Many thanks to everyone whose recommendations served us well!
Now, five years later, it's time to discuss the next move in securing BP's digital future. Everyone who has experience with the purchase and installation of servers is welcomed - gently prodded - enthusiastically pushed into this thread where your input will determine where we go next.
We've set a fundraising goal of $4,000, aside from the usual Spring Drive goals. This is really just a wild guess of what it will take to cover both the purchase of a server and whatever is necessary to get it up and running. This does not need to include the upgraded forum software to go on it, as we've already made that purpose.
Other factors to for consideration and discussion:

Other factors to for consideration and discussion:
- Right now, we think the server can be set up by the guy who currently handles our server work. This is in Phoenix.
- The tentative plan is to keep the current server so the site and backups can be on different boxes. Good plan?
- It would be ideal to have the new server and forum upgrade in place before the football season opens. However, we have to cover the general expenses before allocating funds to the server, because a new server does us no good if the lights are out, so timing will be something to consider in this discussion.
