The BTU has announced their All-Star List for the past 2015 season. The Buckeyes have five players on that list. Only Indiana has matched that.
The Buckeyes had a magical year only to fall short in the BTU Championship against Indiana 34-14.
The discussions aren’t what could have or what should have been …. It is that the Buckeyes have 5 All-Stars on the BTU list.
They are:
Santino Cua
8-man Flanker at 6’1” Senior Captain is a force that led the Buckeyes to the success that they experienced this year – and last. Santino would score 4 tries in the season and have 20 points credited to his efforts.
Do not be misled by the numbers. Santino played hurt all year and was not available in each game due to his injuries. The fact that he was Captain of this talented team serves as evidence that his peers understood his contributions.
Santino’s recognition by the BTU is spot on. They clearly see there is so much more to the game of Rugby than that of numbers. There is leadership and strength,
Jack Bengel
A 6’5” 245 lb. Junior Lock served the purpose of his position. There was rarely glamour but always hard-nosed in-your-face-rugby. The BTU’s recognition of Jack as an All-Star is clear evidence of his ability to play in the trenches and develop the field for those that do in fact receive the glamour.
Jack’s glamour though is now. He is recognized and it is all unavoidable. The BTU got it right in this selection.
Taylor Hurff
What can be said about Taylor?
He was second in the league in total scoring at 81. In conversions he would produce 31, being second again. Many matches the Buckeyes ran away with it, though it would be the close ones such as against TTUN that the needed abilities of Taylor would present itself. The BTU understood in this selection it was clear cut.
JoJo Eramo
The easy escape here is to announce that the League’s try champion @ 15 is a shoo-in!
The 5’8” Wing was in fact the League’s try champion.
He was a flashy runner that played with guts. This is what Rugby is all about. JoJo not only displayed his abilities in this avenue but he showed us all how it was done.
Ronan Forrestal
The 6’1” Full Back is trench work clear cut. The numbers that so many of us need to see to justify whatever often slides past the reality into team spirit is sometimes missed. Ronan fits that category – Team Spirit.
The BTU is wise. They see a player that is dominant in what he does. They see a player hell-bent on the destruction of the opponent. It’s called Rugby. Ronan Forrestal fits that title and the BTU got it all right.
Be proud Buckeye Nation. Our Rugby Team not only marched to the Championship Game two years in a row – they delivered us 5-All-Stars – equal to the BTU Champions Indiana – not even one iota over.
