Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead Monday at his apartment in Arapahoe County of an apparent suicide.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson confirmed McKinley's death, and said he was waiting on a field report from investigators before releasing more information this evening. He would not elaborate on how McKinley died.
"It was apparently a suicide, but we're still investigating," he said.
Authorities were called to McKinley's home in central Centennial at about 4 p.m. this afternoon.

very sad

Was there a history of concussions with Kenny?
Doesn't seem like it from what I've searched.

From a biography/scouting report on McKinley from a Broncos blog after he was drafted last season.
The knock against McKinley is simple - he's considered to be too slender. He experienced injury issues during his senior year in college, including his chronic hamstring and the aforementioned arthritic big toe. However, prior to those two injuries, his health was excellent, which also plays into how he will do in production over his career. Even with those problems, his production was excellent. Kenny McKinley plays through pain.

Then, he had the knee injury last year that sidelined him (injured reserve after playing 8 games). Recovered, then hurt the knee again the first week of camp and was placed on IR again. So a turf toe/arthritis injury that he battled through, a nagging hammy injury, and then 2 knee injuries.

Just never know what kind of demons some people deal with. Very sad. RIP Kenny. :(

Kenny McKinley and O.J. Murdock were friends and shared big NFL dreams

They left for college on an early summer day, bound for a five-story dormitory on Blossom Street. It seemed fitting that Columbia, S.C., is called The City of Dreams. The freshmen at East Quad came early because they couldn't wait to be stars. One was all-county, another all-state, and the third ran so fast he could've been an Olympian. Who knows if they were nervous, or if they felt the eyes and hopes of their hometowns following them all the way to the University of South Carolina. One thing seemed true: These were three of the finest receivers in the country in the Class of 2005, and they could not fail.

Carlos Thomas was the first to drop his bags, dreadlocked and full of cocksure. The four-star recruit did just about everything with his shoes untied. His dad hugged him, said goodbye and told his youngest boy to focus. Thomas was concerned with just one thing that summer of 2005: himself. But soon, he would care just as deeply about his roommates at East Quad.
