2 reasons...
1 - Bucky Katt asked early on if the season for our purposes started the 6th and it's my recollection the answer was yes...

and

2 - in doing so, we won't be playing the last full week of the season .... ie Michigan week.

I asked that because, for whatever reason, I was thinking that there wasn't a full slate of games this coming weekend, which isn't the case. I'm fine with starting this weekend now that I realize it isn't a partial slate. This year's schedule is weird. 13 weeks of full schedules rather than the 12 in year's past.

If we wanted, we could take advantage of the extra week and expand to an 8-team playoff just for this season:

8/30-11/8 - 11 regular season games
11/15 - quarterfinals
11/22 - semi-finals
Bowls - finals

8 of 12 make the playoffs? Just like hockey!
