Jake Diebler picks up a (literally and figuratively) big four-star commitment in the 2025 cycle.
With the November signing period looming, we’re starting to get some moving and shaking in high school basketball recruiting. Class of 2025 recruits are taking visits, naming finalists, and making decisions before the high school season starts shortly.
On Tuesday, Jake Diebler and the Ohio State Buckeyes picked up a big (both figuratively and literally) commitment in the 2025 class with the addition of four-star center A’mare Bynum who plays at the Link Academy in Branson, Missouri.
Bynum is the No. 17 center in the 2025 recruiting cycle and the No. 104 player in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He chose Ohio State over several other Power Five programs, including Xavier, LSU, Iowa, Colorado, and Nebraska, all of which he visited.
Of the programs involved in Bynum’s recruitment, Ohio State was one of the last to offer him a scholarship, extending an offer this July. Bynum then visited campus the weekend of October 4-6, which included taking in the Ohio State vs. Iowa football game at the ‘Shoe with the current team and coaching staff (Ohio State trounced Iowa, 35-7).
Before his official visit, he told Sam Lance of Zagsblog that Diebler is “really cool.”
“I really like (Diebler),” Bynum said. “He talks to me all the time, calls me, FaceTimes me. He’s really excited to see me this weekend.”
After his visit, Bynum told League Ready the experience was “great” and that he both learned and saw a lot from the program. He also sat in on a practice, saying “They really compete in (their) practices. The staff was great.”
Bynum, who is originally from Omaha, Nebraska but has since transferred to Link Academy, plays a hybrid power forward/center position but profiles as a center at the next level. He is currently 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds and should have no issues competing with other post players in the most physical conference in the country.
Here is Eric Bossi, 247Sports’ National Recruiting Director, described Bynum this week:
Diebler has made it known that effort and toughness will be one of his non-negotiables as head coach of the Buckeyes, and his two 2025 recruits – Bynum and four-star guard Dorian Jones – both fit the bill.
Bynum will team up with another Ohio State target, four-star guard Jerry Easter, at Link Academy this season. The two visited Ohio State together, and Easter said that he, too, would like to decide on a school before the November signing period. Ohio State has offers out to two other Link Academy players as well – 2025 four-star guard Davion Hannah (No. 30 overall) and 2025 four-star center John Clark (No. 40 overall).
This is the fifth commitment for Ohio State under Jake Diebler, joining Ivan Njegovan in the 2024 class, Jones in the 2025 class, and Marcus Johnson and Alex Smith in the 2026 recruiting class. He is the first American commit for Diebler to come from outside the state of Ohio, and the second center to commit to Ohio State since Diebler got the job.
Ohio State is expected to take three or four players in the 2025 recruiting class. They are still in the running for elite prospects Darryn Peterson, Jerry Easter, and Niko Bundalo, all three of whom are either announcing soon or are expected to announce soon.

“Live bodied, energetic and versatile, Bynum is a player whose best days are ahead of him on the college level.
A long and wiry strong 6-foot-8 interior player, Bynum is a capable defender at either the power forward or center position. Offensively, he’s in the process of going from a player who relied on hustle points, lobs and quick drives from the high post for his scoring to a much more skilled player. Bynum can now step out and make threes, his passing out of the low post and from the free throw line extended has also improved.
He’s a good rebounder thanks to his high running motor and he’s a glue guy who communicates and brings maximum effort each day. He still needs to add some bulk to his frame and continue to improve on his shot selection from the perimeter but he’s a player who has been steadily improving.”
