Blacked Out

So it's 12:00 on Saturday and I'm watching ESPN on my Directv. and I get this message "Program not available in your area". So after checking on the local channels (since we get the South Bend, IN local Channels), I try to call Directv. After 3 fits of throwing the phone I finally get someone on the line. After 40 minutes of the customer service guy trying to trouble shoot the problem. He tells me that the FCC considers my house to be in Indiana and the Ohio State game is blacked out in Indiana. It's a 267 mile trip to IU.
I grew up in NE Ohio and remember Browns and Steelers games being blacked out but the NFL blackout radius is only 100 miles.

I dont really know what my point is but I just needed to rant. Thanks for listening.

P.S. I would have went but we were planning to go to the Minn. game the following weekend and back to back weekends just are not that fun.

I thought they 'blacked out' games to encourage ticket sales. As in, if __ game sells out, it won't be 'blacked out' in the home city. WTF?

the game was not shown on espn in columbus it was an espn plus (cbs) game.

this i think revolves around the you can only play so many games on national tv a year and so many more in a two year stretch. i think if less than some percentage of people dont see the game in its feed (in this case espn) it is not considered a national game. this was all explained to me in the mid 90s by a guy who worked on an abc sports production team, he has siince moved on to MNF and i havent talked to him in maybe 5 years.

We were at the game and it was great! Met coaches Tressel & Heacock. Also got autographs from schelegel, ginn, troy amith, trapasso, huston, hawk, and archie griffin. ESPN will be rebroadcasting the game late tonight (early tuesday) I think 3 am (check listings) :osu:

The game was in HD on ESPN also, but we couldnt see that here in cbus.
ESPN refused to allow channel 10 to use the HD feed.
Another reason to dislike espn...

My son lives in Louisville and ESPN blacked it out but it was on local TV in Louisville Go Figure!

Was blacked out here in Philadelphia as well on ESPN, luckily though the local WB channel carried it since they air ESPN-Plus Big Ten games on Saturdays.

It was blacked out on ESPN here in Grand Rapids, but fortunately was carried by ESPN+ on one of the local stations.
