Best Food In/Around The Campus

Rugger

Senior
Hey folks,

I'm starting at the university in September and I'm looking for some insight on the best places to eat around the campus. I have visited twice, and I have had Five Guys (the burger chain, we have them where I live too) and Apollo's, which I really liked. Where else is there good food outside of fast food chains? What are the good hang outs?

:oh:

Are you 21?

My favorite food places..

Formaggio pizza
Rusty Bucket (a little West of campus on Lane Avenue)
Old Bag of Nails (also a little West, there's one on Tremont)
Gyro stands downtown
PJ's if you're drunk
Wings Over Columbus if you want some quick/good wings and whatnot.
Patrick J's (north of campus on High, good bar with food and you don't have to be 21)
Cazuela's
Baja Sol
Mad Mex

etc :p

Thanks for the list, I'll be living in Jones Tower on North Campus.

Are you 21?

"Yes"... I have never been carded, it's never been an issue for me here in NYC (maybe it is taken more seriously in Ohio?), and I have a fake if all else fails. The only times I have been carded are when I have been following a bunch of underage girls into midtown clubs. Everyone gets carded in those kinds of situations.

I'm really 19, turning 20 in the fall. I took a year off after high school to work.

Are the locations west of campus (I assume over the river?) convenient to get to? I am not going to have a vehicle.

If you can get in.. my favorite places to hang out happen to be bars.. Out R Inn is my favorite (conveniently right across the street from PJ's and right beside a cheap (but good) pizza place, Sicilia's). The Library (right beside Buffalo Wild Wings) and Lucky's (South Campus Gateway) are also my usual spots.. I like the atmospheres there. Ugly Tuna is cool if you can handle the strong presence of douche.

The Oval is a good place to chill during the day.

Baja Sol is probably somewhat easy to get to without a car, but not Rusty Bucket or Old Bag of Nails.

Adriaticos

/thread

^^

But in all seriousness don't let anyone on this thread try to tell you that's not the best Pizza on campus. The other places are fine and you'll enjoy them, Adriaticos is on another level :p. Just don't think you have to order anything bigger then a large to feed 4 people. The Buckeye Pizza was meant to feed small armies, a medium will suffice for 1 and you'll have leftovers.

Most of the others have been mentioned but I'll throw my endorsements behind them anyway

Raising Canes - Chicken fingers only thing on the menu, the sauce they give you is out of this world. You can substitute out the Cole Slaw for another piece of Texas Toast which I'd recommend (unless you really like Cole Slaw)

Wings over Columbus - Great boneless wings

Pj's - May I stress ONLY if you're drunk, when they say "for drunk subs" you are probably not picturing what they are talking about. The menu would horrify you sober. I throw my recommendation behind the Fat Bitch sandwich.

I can't really think of many places that really serve bad food though, pretty much any place you go to on high street you'll be able to find something decent.

If you are just starting out as a freshmen though you'll have a meal plan right? So you probably won't be eating at these types of places THAT often, especially if your like most freshmen who get a meal plan thats way too big for them to ever finish lol.

I'm partial to the Blue D'ube, Hudson and High,-- mostly cause it's the only thing still operating since I was a student. It's not good food, but it's a lot of food for small price. Great place to get a late night munchie buster meal with stomach soothing thick gravy. Helps you build up your 'bad' cholesterol count. Operated with grad student budget mentality in mind.

If you have a bicycle, it's a short ride to the Short North, where food choices are essentially unlimited. My personal recommendations include Barley's, Jeni's Ice Cream (in the North Market itself), and - if you or your parents are rich - DeepWood in the Hampton Inn. DeepWood is the best restaurant in Columbus in my opinion. Just make sure you have at least $80 a head to cover the bill.
