Week 9 came out of nowhere and provided us with an amazing weekend of football. That is what I love about college football, no weekend is completely boring. There will always be things which happen that leave you speechless. Minnesota gave us one of those moments in the Big Ten this weekend. I still do not know what to think of that final couple of seconds but it was easily one of the worst coaching jobs I have seen in a while. It’s unfortunate because it probably would have ended differently with Jerry Kill still running the program. The Gophers lost a great man and a great leader this week but personal health is more important than any football team.

Illinois (4-4 overall, 1-3 conference)

Last Week: Lost to Penn State, 0-39. Many expected Illinois to lose this game but this was so much more brutal than anyone expected. Illinois has a problem that many middle-tier B1G teams have, they lack consistency. After playing Iowa and Wisconsin very tough, they did not even show up this game.

This Week: The Illini travel to take on Purdue. Purdue is coming off a dominating win versus Nebraska but which Illinois team will show up?

This Week in Recruiting: Illinois did not have any commits this week. They sit at 17 commits for the 2016 class.

Indiana (4-4 overall, 0-4 conference)

Last Week: Bye Week.

This Week: Indiana welcomes the undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes to town. Indiana played Ohio State and Michigan State very tough; will they be able to do the same against Iowa?

This Week in Recruiting: Indiana did not have any commits this week. They sit at 10 commits for the 2016 class.

Iowa (8-0 overall, 4-0 conference)

Last Week: Beat Maryland, 31-15. Iowa struggled offensively this game but rode a 21-0 halftime lead out to beat the Terrapins in convincing fashion. Iowa was held to only 110 yards rushing and 293 yards overall. As always, the Iowa defense was very stout holding Maryland to 241 yards.

This Week: The Hawkeyes continue their B1G championship game warm-up tour as they travel to Bloomington to face off with the Hoosiers.

This Week in Recruiting: Iowa received a commitment from three-star cornerback K.J. Sails. He had 23 offers, including one from division rival Wisconsin. They sit at 24 commits for the 2016 class.

Maryland (2-6 overall, 0-4 conference)

Last Week: Lost to Iowa, 15-31. Maryland lost their fifth straight game and fell to 2-6 on the year. Iowa’s stingy defense somehow kept the unstoppable Perry Hills in check as the Terrapin signal caller only had 74 yards passing with three interceptions and 104 yards on the ground.

This Week: Maryland welcomes Bucky the Badger and his football team to town.

This Week in Recruiting: Maryland did not have any commits this week. They sit at 18 commits for the 2016 class.

Michigan (6-2 overall, 3-1 conference)

Last Week: Beat Minnesota, 29-26. Two weeks ago we watched as Michigan was the butt of all jokes when they lost to Michigan State in miraculous fashion. I could watch this over and over…and I have.

This week, they were on the other end as Minnesota was set up in prime position to either win the game or tie it up. Instead they did nothing and it was crazy.

We will discuss this debacle more in the Minnesota section. For Michigan, Jake Rudock went down in the fourth quarter after taking a pretty big hit. Also of concern, the seemingly impenetrable defense was a gauged for 461 yards by the Golden Gopher offense which has struggled mightily at times.

This Week: Michigan takes on Rutgers at home. I would not be surprised if Rudock sits this one out and gets ready for the back end of their schedule. Wilton Speight would take his spot as Shayne Morris redshirts this year.

This Week in Recruiting: Michigan did not have any commits this week. They sit at 21 commits for the 2016 class.

Michigan State (8-0 overall, 4-0 conference)

Last Week: Bye Week.

This Week: Nebraska comes to town licking their wounds from an absolute thrashing at the hands of Purdue. Look for Connor Cook to keep his hot streak going by throwing the ball all over the field against a Nebraska defense which has given up 2,843 passing yards on the year, which is good for 316 yards a game. This ranks last in the B1G.

This Week in Recruiting: Michigan State did not have any commits this week. They sit at 20 commits for the 2016 class.

Minnesota (4-4 overall, 1-3 conference)

Last Week: Minnesota lost to Michigan, 26-29. As we saw in the video above, the Minnesota coaching staff let their team down big time. Minnesota had a big play score what was believed to be the game winning touchdown but the play was under review due to the receiver apparently being tackled at the one yard line. During this review, the coaching staff should have taken a second to make sure everyone was on the same page. I don’t know if they thought the clock was not running or what but the play call was downright pitiful. I sat in shock as the first three Golden Gophers went in motion which wasted six seconds. I was then flabbergasted as they then sent the running back in motion taking a full 12 seconds off the clock. All of this occurred as the Gophers had a timeout in their pocket. But all should not have been lost, they were still in perfect position to kick the field goal and send it to overtime. The Gopher staff decided they would go for it and they were very unsuccessful. This, my friends, is how a coaching staff loses a game for their team.

This Week: Minnesota gets no time to recover from the loss as they welcome our Buckeyes into town led by J.T. Barrett Cardale Jones.

This Week in Recruiting: Three-star DT Jojo Garcia de-committed from the Golden Gophers and in a sudden development decided to quit playing football. He was very close with Jerry Kill and took the news of his retirement for health reasons very hard. It will be interesting to see how this whole situation plays out. Minnesota now sits at 17 commits for the 2016 class.

Nebraska (3-6 overall, 1-4 conference)

Last Week: Nebraska lost to Purdue, 45-55. Coming into the season, many Nebraska fans were very optimistic about their chances coming out of the B1G West. That optimism has turned into anger as the team dropped their sixth game of the year. Only time will tell if Mike Riley will ever succeed at Nebraska but it is certain that giving up 55 points to Purdue will certainly not help his case in the long run. This game was much worse than the final score leads on as Purdue was up 42-16 going into the fourth quarter. Ryker Fyfe filled in for Tommy Armstrong and threw for 404 yards, four touchdowns, but had four interceptions.

This Week: Nebraska is home this week to take on Michigan State. This is one of those games where it may get ugly quickly if Nebraska is not able to get past their last couple of losses.

This Week in Recruiting: Nebraska did not have any commits this week. They sit at 15 commits for the 2016 class.

Northwestern (6-2 overall, 2-2 conference)

Last Week: Bye Week.

This Week: Home vs Penn State as they try to slow down the suddenly hot Christian Hackenburg.

This Week in Recruiting: Northwestern did not have any commits this week. They sit at 19 commits for the 2016 class.

Penn State (7-2 overall, 4-1 conference)

Last Week: Penn State beat Illinois, 39-0. Penn State held Illinois to a paltry 167 yards of offense while racking up 400 yards on the offensive side of the ball. Hackenburg had a great day throwing the ball around for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Buckeye Master Saquon Barkley added 84 yards on the ground.

This Week: Travel to play Northwestern. While this game won’t get the headlines this weekend, PSU vs Northwestern should be an interesting game.

This Week in Recruiting: Penn State did not have any commits this week. They sit at 19 commits for the 2016 class.

Purdue (2-6 overall, 1-3 conference)

Last Week: Beat Nebraska, 55-45. After losing six of seven games, with the lone win coming against Indiana State, the Boilermakers looked like a competent football team on Saturday. Quarterback David Blough led the way with five total touchdowns and 356 total yards.

This Week: The Boilermakers are home against the Fighting Illini. It should be a real barnburner.

This Week in Recruiting: Purdue did not have any commits this week. They sit at 9 commits for the 2016 class.

Rutgers (3-5 overall, 1-4 conference)

Last Week: Rutgers lost to Wisconsin, 10-48. Rutgers struggled mightily on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they were pretty even with their attack with 83 yards rushing and 82 yards passing. Unfortunately, neither of those numbers is good and will generally lead to losing football games. On the defensive side of the ball, they gave up 426 yards.

This Week: Travel to the Big House to take on Michigan.

This Week in Recruiting: Rutgers did not have any commits this week. They sit at 18 commits for the 2016 class.

Wisconsin (7-2 overall, 4-1 conference)

Last Week: Wisconsin beat Rutgers, 48-10. The big news for Wisconsin was the return of Corey Clement. Playing for the first time in two months, Clement rumbled for 111yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries.

This Week: Wisconsin travels east to take on Maryland.

This Week in Recruiting: Wisconsin did not have any commits this week. They sit at 20 commits for the 2016 class.
