Are you still quitters?

SIMV? And everyone else who was attempting to stop smoking? I can proudly state that I have not had a cigarette in...I don't even know how long. A damn long time. Thought I'd check and see how the rest of you guys are doing...

Same here... I haven't had one in a while, I think it's been a month or so. I'm stilll going strong but chewing a lot of gum :). The first week or so was the hardest but I don't even want one anymore. I went out to dinner with my brother (he smokes) on Saturday and his smoking had no effect on me. Now I have to get him to quit.

How'd you do it FKA? I'm gonna try again here pretty soon. Where I messed up was I love my beer and well... you know what happens when you drink. I'll have to cut both of them out of my diet for a while and find something productive to do instead of sitting in a dark bar on such a nice day.

Sleep a lot. Pick a weekend where you have nothing to do, and stay in bed. It helped me tremendously. If you're sleeping, you aren't craving anything. And like you said, avoid the things that are associated with smoking.

Drinking
playing cards
being on the PC/PS2/XBox

Eat lighter meals. Being less full helps reduce the craving for one after eating.

There's no big secret, to be honest. I think it's all the little things put together. I chewed gum a lot. Still do, actually. Suckers helped me tremendously, especially at work. I know, sounds gay, but it really helped, especially at work. My personal favorites were the Starburst suckers. The smoking ban helped somewhat, plus the fact that none of my friends smoke, so I didn't have anyone to bum from. It's a lot easier to bum a couple than it is to admit you failed, and buy a pack. The thing that made the biggest difference to me was my son. As most probably know, I had a son last August. Well, I carry a picture of the little guy in my wallet, and everytime I had a bad craving I would pull that picture out and look at it, asking myself if I wanted to be around to see him play football at the Ohio State University from the stadium, or from the afterlife. That was enough for me to fight off the craving.

Not a single dip since 1/31....not even during these weeks of chasing a playoff berth.

Spring football scares me though...

You suck, I really need to quit. I have been doing it since I was 13 or so. The last time I tried even with the patch my wife went and bought me a can because I was being an asshole (those are her words not mine).

So what is the secret?

I stopped smoking in early June... Not one smoke since I quit!

I do have a cigar every now and then (not too many in the winter... prob. one every other month... the number will prob. ramp up as we are now into golf season)...

I stopped cold turkey... just gutted my way through it... once you make it to two weeks, it gets a lot easier... I must admit I still drool when I see a person smoke when I'm at the bar... knowing that helps keep me strong. If I try to sneak just one, I'll fall off the wagon (been there done that, a couple years ago... stopped for a year and picked it back up after sneaking a few).

Stay strong... it's tough...

I mentioned this in a previous thread so I'll throw it out here too. Take it for what it's worth. I quit smoking 4 years ago March 27 right after I had acupuncture. I'd heard about it from several other people and thought I might as well give it a try. Took about 15 minutes and I haven't had a cigarette since I walked out of the office. I don't know if it works for everyone but I can attest that it helped me.
