This is beginning to sound like a broken record.

Or maybe a bad country song.

I think it’s time for OSU to decide on a QB and stick with that person as long as it’s J.T. Barrett. No offense to Cardale Jones (or Cardell as some broadcasters say) but Barrett really had the offense in high-octane mode last year. Jones had the deep ball as a safety net. That doesn’t exist this year and the Buckeyes need someone to manage the offense, not just Brett Favre it down the field.

The performance against Northern Illinois (incidentially, I was born in DeKalb not far from the campus. Of course it’s DeKalb, nothing is far from campus) made a lot of us here at tBBC wonder if we were asking for too much.

Fitting that on a day Jim Tressel is honored by the university that the Buckeyes win with Tressel Ball — defense and special teams.

Here are the unhappy totals …..

Scott
No mercy: Seriously? What was I thinking.
Health: Well, at least nobody suffered any serious injuries, other than to their ego.
The stat man: I wanted to see 80 percent or better on third downs and only one or two punts, while the regulars were out there; fewer than five penalties and no more than 30 yards in penalties; and nearly 600 yards in total offense. What the heck was I smoking?
Loud Shoe: Well, there’s that, at least.

Jason
Continuity: The only continuity here is the lack of it.
Run, Zeke, run: Had 23 carries, but only 108 yards. Need more production out of that many carries. This was supposed to be the best OL in the country.
Turnovers: Forced two and scored 10 points off of them.

Fortunately the defense has been solid.

Braxton and Jalin: Neither was a factor.
Notoriety for Joshua Perry: He had 10 tackles, tied for the team lead. No TD from the man though. He’s quietly having a great year.

Ken
Win: Barely.
No injuries: No worries.
Decisiveness: Still need to decide who is QB.
Take the under: Could not get the offensive playmakers going. Nothing doing under or over.
Run Zeke: He got enough carries. Just not enough production.

Charles
Consistency on offense: See above. Consistently inconsistent.
Generate turnovers: Two TOs were turned into 10 points.
Improvement in the kicking game: Two out of two isn’t bad, right?

Mali Buckeye
No. False. Starts: Not. Gonna. Happen. Had two. Plus an illegal motion.
Feed Zeek: He left hungry.
STTD: Got a pick 6. Boy was that huge.
Marshall, Marshall, Marshall: Nice idea. Couldn’t get him the ball enough.
Defensive excellence: Defense has been carrying this team so far.

WVa Buckeye
Ground and pound: Could have had a little more pounding.
Defense wins championships: It may have to this year.
Special special teams: It was about as solid as it could be.
