I lived there for 10 years (that exact area).
Where you are staying is Rochester Hills which is a fairly nice area. For eats you can go to Auburn Hills which is sort of on the way. If you want a good steak house Lelli's is pretty good. It is right by the Chrysler Tech center and the Pontiac Silverdome. The filet with their zip sauce is really good. It is semi formal (collared shirt, dress pants) and somewhat expensive.
Here is their website....
Lelli's of Auburn Hills
You can also go to downtown Rochester for some pretty good eats (just East of where you are staying). If you want something closer to DTE you can go to downtown Clarkston (just West of DTE...one exit difference off of 75). There is a nice little restaurant in the middle of the little town called the Union, but it's always packed. The Mesquite Creek is also pretty good.
Finally, you can go to the huge shopping mall in Auburn Hills (called Great Lakes Crossing) just South of DTE. They have a Gamesworks, Rainforest Cafe, a Japanese Steakhouse (I forget the name), a place like Mongolian BBQ, etc. That would probably be the most conveneint. There are also lots of chain restaurants all around the shopping mall, and of course a food court inside the mall for cheap, fast food if you want.
You can also head south to Troy where there is a Shula's, Ruth Chris, etc. Of course there is the city of Detroit, but it's really not that close. You will realize that on the way up. Plus I don't really recommend going to the city if you are not with someone that knows their way.

Greek Town for chow and bars....
That is about a 30-45 minute drive from Rochester Hills, and then another 45 minutes plus back to DTE. Great place to go for pre/post Joe Louis, Comerica Park, or Ford Field events. Not so good for DTE. Plus that is in the city of Detroit (see my comment above).
