any recorder players here?

When I lived in the UK, I shared a duplex with a british family that had two grade-school aged kids that would play those damn things every afternoon. I had paper thin walls, and it drove me nuts when I was working midnights because my bedroom was lined up right next to their family room.:pissed:

Stay away from them. Too damn tough to learn. I think they were created by Bob Toledo as some sort of torture device. Even Chuck Norris cannot defeat the recorder. Jack Bauer though! Well, he is the man!

Here is a pretty good page on recorders. I have a few cheapo plastic ones, and can't be of much specific help, but I wouldn't buy an instrument of any sort from Ebay unless it was just for learning purposes, with the thought of finding something better if a real interest develops. Wooden instruments in particular vary greatly... the only way to be sure you'll like it is to try a few and choose.

You can get 'em cheap and they are easy to disinfect, which makes them great school instruments.

I remember trying out for an advanced music class in fourth grade... didn't make it. The recorder audition was a breeze, but we had to sing, "My Country 'Tis of Thee." I figured, who are the best singers? Opera singers. What do they do? They sing really, really, really high. Really high.

Sometimes my ears still ring.
