Ohio State misses out on a major 2016 DT prospect. So what's next?
There's not many spots left in Ohio State's highly regarded 2016 class, but the Buckeyes would badly like one of them to go to a defensive tackle. One major Buckeye target to fill that spot, Antwuan Jackson of Ellenwood, Georgia, announced today where he would be playing in college ball, but it won't be in Columbus. Instead, Jackson will continue his career at Auburn.
Jackson had been a major Buckeye target for a while, but in the end, staying closer to home won out for the four-star, who also had offers from Florida, Alabama, Clemson, and virtually every other major program in the country. At 6'3, 285-pounds, Jackson could have stepped in to provide size, strength and depth to an Ohio State defensive line that will be losing two excellent starters to the NFL next season.
The Buckeyes already have one defensive tackle in this class, four-star Malik Barrow, but will still continue to try and recruit a second one. The Buckeyes are still in contention for five star targets Rashard Lawrence of Louisiana, and top prospect Rashan Gary of New Jersey. The Buckeyes aren't favored in either of those recruiting battles though, and should they come up empty, perhaps we'll see some new names on their board.
