Amanda Furrer a Graduate of The Ohio State University (2013) and a member of the Buckeyes Rifle Team will be heading for Rio De Janeriro and the 2016 Olympics.

Amanda said her shooting career began at 11 years old as a member of the Spokane Junior Rifle Team. Her sister Lauren, she’ll tell you, got her into the sport, as she was into the shooting sports and Amanda wanted very much to be like her older sister. Amanda claims it all began “not so good”. When she started shooting she’d shoot up the garage doors because she couldn’t hit the target. Shooting is in the family blood. Furrer’s father, Michael shoots in tactical matches and her mom shoots pistols.

Amanda though has gone beyond other members in her family. She qualified for the national team as a member of the 2007 Pan American Team at the age of 16, winning the Bronze. In 2008 she was an Olympic Team alternate in Beijing. In both 2007 & 2008 she would be first at the Junior International Hopes match in the Czech Republic – ranked 35th in the world. She would also qualify for the World Cup for the (wm. 3p 50 meters) in the USA, Australia, Germany (twice), China (twice), Korea and Italy.

As a Buckeye in 2010, her Freshman Season she was First-team All-American, advancing to the NCAA smallbore rifle championship finishing seventh (678.7). She’d win the Red Field Trophy as the top smallbore shooter (590) during the NCAA Sectional, winning the WIRC smallbore (589) and air rifle (590) championship. She was first team WIRC All-Conference in smallbore and air rifle with a season-high of 590 in both smallbore and air rifle at the NCAA Sectional … two-gun aggregate, having a season-high of 1,180 at the NCAA Sectional (smallbore 590, air 590).

This was just Freshmen Year!

Come her Sophomore Year in 2011 she competed in 12 events, the WIRC champion in both smallbore and air rifle making First-team WIRC, All-Conference in both smallbore and air rifle while being a Big Ten All-Academic athlete. She tied for eighth at the NCAA smallbore rifle individual championship with a season-high in smallbore of 586 at the Withrow Invitational … season-high in air rifle of 590 at Morehead State – having a season-high aggregate of 1,173 (smallbore 585, air 588) at Akron.

In 2012, her Junior Year she’d compete in 12 events … WIRC champion in smallbore rifle while being first team All-WIRC in smallbore and air rifle, finishing ninth at the NCAA smallbore individual championship for a third-consecutive Top 10 NCAA finish and a season-high 589 in smallbore at Morehead State, posting a season-high 592 in air rifle at Morehead State as she headed to a season-best aggregate 1,181.

Going into her Senior Year she’d qualify for the U.S. Olympic team in 50-meter 3-position in June of 2012 at U.S. Olympic Trials in Ft. Benning, Ga.
