  • By winning percentage. The games played through Sep 9, 2006 are included:

    1. Michigan: 850-281-36 (.7438)
    2. Notre Dame: 813-267-41 (.7435)
    3. Alabama: 776-301-43 (.7121)
    4. Texas: 801-314-34 (.7119)
    5. Ohio State: 777-300-53 (.7111)

Texas' loss dropped them below Alabama into fourth place. An interesting note is that despite the fact that Alabama has one less win and one more loss than us, they are a thousandth of a point ahead of us due to us having 10 more ties (each tie couonting as a half win and half loss).

I'll wager 1000 vCash that Texas passes Alabama again in ... oh, about 4 weeks.

I was driving around Saturday morning and they were listing the top 5 programs historically (Like the one thread we have, that is, not based strictly on winning pct.) and they tossed out the same bunch of team we had, Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and so on.

Anyway, so this guy calls up and he's all upset that Nebraska isn't on the list. So, he says (quote approximate)

"You have to include Nebraska. 3 Heisman trophies, 5 National championships, top 10 all time wins. Nebraska should be up there and you should get rid of the pretenders, like Ohio State and Michigan" (He definately refered to Ohio State and Michigan as 'pretenders')

I had half a mind to call in and remind this guy via the radio that Ohio State has as many NCs, is also Top 10 all time wins, and has more heismans. I guess by his criteria, Nebraska is the pretender... and conspicuously missing from the top 5 all time winning pct. list, I might add.

Don't forgot "and 2-0 against the children of the corn"

One of the guys down on the ops center floor is a big fan of both Texas and Notre Dame. He gave me shit before the Fiesta Bowl. Crow pie. He gave me shit again before this past weekend. More crow pie. He still hasn't got the feathers from between his teeth.

Combined score of our latest ND and UT games: 58-27. I e-mailed him a copy of the new SI cover...he wasn't amused.

It's moments like this we live for, I think.

I have a colleague who comes from Notre Dame. He is a real gentleman and I really enjoy talking football with him. It can be tedious. Year after year of what they could be about to do this year. Oh, it's just too bad we don't play. Then, comes the 1990s blow outs. You caught us in a real down time. Boy, if we ever play again. He goes back to the US and I find a Notre Dame cap in my mailbox. He's a nice guy. A misguided priest, I suppose, but a nice guy and a friend.

I felt a bit bad because I rebuffed his email before the Fiesta Bowl. I said, "You guys haven't played anyone with a defense this year, certainly not a defense like ours. This is gonna be a blow out with a late score against our second string bringing you back to within 14 or so."

We didn't speak again before or after the game until he arrived again this year. When he arrived, I made sure that my copy of the Ohio State alumni magazine is in his mailbox. I found the Notre Dame mag in my box in return.

Then he said it, "You know, you made me look pretty good among the other faculty at Notre Dame last year. They all thought we'd win. I said, I have a friend who knows football and he thinks Ohio State will win by 14. He really knows football and I don't think we're gonna win. What do you think we'll do this year?"

    Yep. Moments we live for.

Pulling a @ScriptOhio and digging up an old thread, started by none-other almost 10 years ago. We've jumped Texas and Alabama into third place in winning percentage and have significantly closed the gap between us and the Arrogant Two:

    Notre Dame.......892-314-41 (0.732)
    Michigan.........925-333-38 (0.728)
    Ohio St..........875-320-54 (0.722)
    Alabama..........864-326-43 (0.718)
    Oklahoma.........859-322-53 (0.718)
    Texas............886-356-34 (0.708)
    Nebraska.........890-368-41 (0.701)
    Southern Cal.....821-335-54 (0.701)
    Penn St..........860-383-43 (0.685)
    Tennessee........820-371-54 (0.680)

Note that scum has dropped below ND and has lost over .015 points in a decade, while we have gained .011 points.
