With conference tournaments, NCAA tournaments and playoffs underway for several Buckeye spring sports teams, here are the updates you need to stay in the loop this week.

With softball and track & field prepping for their conference championships while tennis, women’s golf and men’s lacrosse kick off NCAA Tournament play, things are getting exciting for sports teams across Buckeye Nation. Here is all the info you need to cheer for your teams throughout playoff season.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis both advance to Super Regional

Ohio State men’s and women’s tennis both won their first- and second-round matches in the NCAA Tournament to advance to the NCAA Super Regional, with the women defeating Notre Dame and the men defeating Auburn in Round 2 to advance to the round of 16.

The women (23-3), who earned a No. 4 seed after defeating Michigan for the Big Ten Tournament title, opened their NCAA Tournament play against Buffalo last Friday in Columbus, 4-0. Sydni Ratliff and Dani Schoenly secured the first doubles win for the Buckeyes, with the second win coming from Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry to secure the doubles point. Chavez, Audrey Spencer and Shelly Bereznyak each won their singles match to seal the win for the Buckeyes.

OSU then hosted Notre Dame during Saturday’s second-round match, winning 4-1 after dropping the doubles point but securing four singles wins — from Spencer, Bereznyak, Perry and Chavez — to take the match. The Buckeyes now get ready to host No. 13 LSU in a Super Regional match next Friday or Saturday, with details to be announced.

It will be the Buckeyes’ first time hosting a Super Regional since the NCAA changed the format in 2022, moving to campus sites for the third round. It is the Buckeyes’ first appearance in the Super Regionals since 2023.

The men (28-3) also opened their NCAA Tournament play with a 4-0 sweep of Buffalo, earning quick doubles wins from Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico, along with Will Jansen and Aidan Kim to earn Saturday’s doubles point. Singles wins from Bryce Nakashima, Jack Anthrop and Jansen ended the match for the Buckeyes.

The men mirrored the women again on Sunday when they defeated Auburn, 4-1, dropping the doubles point before rallying with four singles wins from Preston Stearns, Alexander Bernard, Nakashima, and Kim to earn their spot in the round of 16, their 19th consecutive season doing so.

The men will also host their Super Regional, this time facing No. 12 Mississippi State at noon ET on Saturday. The two teams met last year in Columbus in the same round, with OSU winning 4-1. The winner advances to the quarterfinals.

NCAA Regionals are underway for Women’s Golf

The No. 14 Ohio State women’s golf team is currently hosting the NCAA Columbus Regional at the OSU Scarlet Course, with play beginning yesterday for the No. 3-seed.

The regional features three rounds of stroke play, with round 2 taking place today (Tuesday) and the final round set for tomorrow. Twelve teams and six individuals not on those teams are competing for five team spots and one individual spot to advance to the NCAA Finals.

Last season, the Buckeyes narrowly missed a spot in the finals, placing sixth in their regional pool.

At the end of Monday’s round, the Buckeyes held a three-stroke lead, with a team score of 63 (-9). Arkansas, the No. 2 team in the country, follows at 6-under. The Buckeyes also sit atop the individual leaderboard with Nellie Ong in the top spot at 6-under. Faith Choi is tied for fourth with a score of 3-under, and Mandy Song is tied for 10th at 2-under.

Marina Joyce-Moreno shot a +2 on Monday, while Kary Hollenbaugh shot +3. Hollenbaugh, who has won four individual titles this spring, also recently earned herself a spot in the U.S. Open with a first-place finish at the U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier.

Play continues Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.

Men’s Lacrosse wins first Big Ten Tournament title in program history

For the first time in school history, the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team (14-2) won the Big Ten Tournament over No. 3 Maryland last Saturday, 14-10. The Buckeyes also earned themselves the regular season Big Ten title for the first time in program history this season.

The Buckeyes entered the game against Maryland ranked No. 5 nationally and with the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, thanks to their first-ever regular season Big Ten title. Five players scored multiple goals for OSU against the Terrapins, led by Garrett Haas with three goals and an assist. Sophomore goalie Caleb Fyock was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

OSU’s win over Maryland secured the Buckeyes an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 4 seed, where they are set to host Notre Dame in the first round, Sunday, May 11 at noon ET. The winner will then head to Maryland for the NCAA Quarterfinals, held May 17-18 at Navy-Marine Corp Stadium in Annapolis.

Softball lands No. 4 seed in Big Ten Tournament

After finishing the regular season with a 43-11-1 record on the heels of a series win at Illinois this past weekend, Ohio State softball turns its attention toward the Big Ten Tournament, where they’ve earned a No.4 seed.

The conference tournament is set for this weekend at Purdue, and the Buckeyes will play their first game this Thursday at 7 p.m. ET against the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 5 Northwestern and No. 12 Purdue.

OSU recently swept Purdue at home in a three-game series. They have not faced Northwestern this season, though both teams finished the year 16-6-0 in conference. The Buckeyes won all six of their three-game Big Ten series this season.

Track & Field wrap regular season with three wins

Despite more than six hours of weather delays, the Buckeyes closed out their regular season at home with three wins at its annual Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Lacey Stringer took the top spot in women’s shot put with a best throw of 15.45m/50’8.25”, while Tanner Watson won men’s discus with a best throw of 54.53m/178’11”. On the track side, OSU won the men’s 800m with Alex Kenish’s time of 1:52.66.

The Buckeyes now have the week off to get ready for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, which are set to take place May 16-18 in Eugene, Oregon.
