Luke Wypler also happens to be one of the best offensive lineman in the country.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are officially in fall camp, and are preparing for their 129th season of football. The weekend saw two days worth of practices—meaning there are 22 more remaining. While interim head coach Ryan Day was running practice over the weekend, the OSU recruiting trail was active, too. Nobody committed, but one member already wrapped up in the Buckeyes’ 2020 class disseminated some good news on social media.
The All-American selection
Back in July, four-star offensive guard Luke Wypler (Montvale, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) committed to Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class. On the offensive side of the ball, Wypler is one of the best in the country. According to 247sports’ composite rankings, he’s the No. 3 OG in the class, and the best prospect in the state of New Jersey.
Knowing that, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that one of the major prep football showcases would come knocking. On Saturday, Wypler posted to Twitter that he’s committed to playing in the Under Armour All-American game.

The Twitter graphic shows a slew of current football stars that have taken part in the UA All-American game. If you look closely, you’ll notice a couple Buckeyes on the graphic; Ryan Shazier’s name is at the bottom, and Joey Bosa’s is at the top.
Over 20 schools have made offers to Wypler, and an overwhelming majority of the predictions on the 247sports crystal ball still has him in the class. There haven’t been any noticeable signs that the current situation around Urban Meyer has caused Wypler to have second thoughts about committing to Ohio State.
If you want to see why Wypler was an All-American selection and one of the top prospects in his class, you can take a look at his highlight reel below.
The Waiting Game
While Wypler is a Buckeye commit, a Buckeye target in the 2019 class is holding off on making his college announcement. Originally slated for an Aug. 13 commitment date, four-star wide receiver Peyton Powell (Odessa, TX / Permian) let the world know via Twitter that things have changed.
Ohio State was seen as the frontrunner to land Powell, but that was before the Oklahoma Sooners jumped on the scene with an offer in late July. Since then, Lincoln Riley’s program has made significant headway in getting the talented 6-foot-2 wide out. According to the 247sports crystal ball, at least three predictions since Aug. 4 have come in for the Sooners as the likely landing spot for Powell. Overall, 53 percent of the predictions have OU, and 47 percent have OSU as where Powell will go for his college days. If Oklahoma does get Powell’s commitment, geography may be the reason for why he’d become a Sooner over being a Buckeye.
Using the 247sports composite metrics, Powell is graded as the 29th best athlete in the ‘19 recruiting cycle, and the 42nd best product in the Lone Star State.
