OHIO STATE FRESHMAN GUARD TAISON CHATMAN COULD MISS START OF 2023-24 SEASON AFTER A "MINOR KNEE PROCEDURE"

At Big Ten Media Days on Tuesday, Holtmann revealed Taison Chatman underwent a recent "minor knee procedure" that will keep him on the sidelines until November, a development that places his status for Ohio State's season opener with Oakland on Nov. 6 in question.

Holtmann also added that Austin Parks, Ohio State's 6-foot-10, 250-pound freshman center from St. Mary's, Ohio, has dealt with back spasms in preseason camp. However, he expects Parks' ailment to subside before the season starts.

"Taison is out four to six weeks with a minor knee procedure," Holtmann said. "Austin has been out with some back spasms. Both of those guys have been out for a little bit. Austin should be returning soon."

  • Injury updates: "Taison (Chatman) is still going through his recovery from his procedure ... there's no real update on his timeline. Austin Parks has returned to practice. ... We're going long, we're hitting pretty much every day right now. ... We'll taper back a little bit as we get close to games."

Echo everything above. I get injuries, and coming back before really healed up. Was impressed by Taison's court presence yesterday against Purdue. And ALL the freshmen. But given the pressure Holtmann was under, the incentive to get the frosh some minutes was clearly over-shadowed by winning/keeping score close, etc. That's my story and I'm sticking it. Pretty certain I'd do the same thing, not developing the kids for someone else.
