2016 CFB Conference Championship Week Open Thread

Best case scenario for OSU?

ACC:
#3 Clemson v. #23 VA Tech

Winner: VA Tech

SEC:
Bama v. FL

Winner: Doesn't matter Bama's getting in anyway

PAC-12
#8 Colorado v. #4 Washington

Winner: Colorado-- Or does this matter? Are one of the two getting in either way? If so, why??? This conference is crap. A win over Utah means nothing. They're basically the Nebraska of the B1G. Seemed to be talented...until they played someone. They moved UP in the rankings even though they LOST. They have 4 losses. Nebraska has 3- #2 OSU, #6 Wisconsin and Iowa (who beat scUM)

Big 12 (sort of):
#9 Oklahoma v. #10 Oklahoma St.

Winner: Oklahoma (doesn't seem as if this game is relevant to the Playoff but a Oklahoma win would obviously help us)

B1G:
#6 Wisconsin v. #7 PSU

Winner: Wisconsin

IMO: The B1G is a double edge sword. The Committee chair said (to summarize) they felt there's a big gap between the talent of tOSU and PSU. But they own the h2h and would hold the B1G Championship../ Even with a win over Wisconsin, they'd only have 2 quality wins. We, of course, own the h2h with Wisconsin but they have 2 close losses with us in OT & #5 scUM. If they do win, they'll have wins over LSU, PSU, Nebraska (which, isn't exactly quality anymore but...if we wanna claim it I guess we should give them credit). Plus, then they'll have the B1G Championship.

Quite frankly, as a fan, I think even if PSU wins they'd be the "Michigan State" of last year (or even this). I'd rather watch us, but Wisconsin is a better choice if, for some bizarre reason they don't take us (or take both). I don't care what anyone says, PSU is overrated and the worst possible choice. The Outback bowl should just take them right now. Or, better yet, The New Era Pinstripe Bowl.

Get this ridiculous prediction by CBS Sports (that always seems to be wrong about everything):

Clemson and Washington both lose
Again, unless Colorado destroys Washington, the Buffaloes won't make the playoff but will go to the Rose Bowl.

If Colorado is in the playoff ... Michigan or Big Ten champion Wisconsin (not Penn State, see below) gets into the playoff.

If the Big Ten champion (if not in the playoff) or Michigan heads to the Rose Bowl, the Big Ten championship loser goes to the Orange Bowl. Washington is in the Rose. Virginia Tech is in the Orange. Clemson is in the Cotton.

If Colorado is out of the playoff ... Both Michigan and the Big Ten champion make the playoff. Yes, three Big Ten teams and Alabama play for the CFP championship.

The Big Ten championship game loser plays Colorado in the Rose Bowl. Virginia Tech plays Auburn in the Orange Bowl. The Oklahoma/Oklahoma State winner plays Florida in the Sugar Bowl. The Cotton Bowl gets Clemson.

No Fucking way they put 3 B1G teams in I don't care who wins/loses. No one wants to see that. Though I'd relish the chance to play PSU again. Or scUM. But, scUM's not getting in.

This is a very real possibility, but it's extremely unlikely to happen. Either way, I'm ready to kick back and pour some drinks and enjoy our solidified spot. If chaos happens, even better. scUM doesn't need much to get in, so definitely don't count them out if Washington slips up. Right now, the committee views the Bucks and scUM as being better than Whisky and PSU... and it isn't close.

I say bring it on. Let the chips fall where they may and let's get ready for the gauntlet! Ohio State is a lock, so this weekend is nothing more than Urban sipping from a "that's none of my business" victory glass.

I think if Washington loses, the only team that can thereafter jump scUM is Wisconsin. Only lost to scUM by a score, not 39, and will have the B1G title (assuming, of course, they beat Ped)... but.. I'm not sure Wisconsin even can jump scUM in that case, to be honest, in the eyes of the committee... which is to say, in a "tie" situation, H2H seems far more important a factor than who the Champion is ...

I hear ya. I just don't see it happening. Nor do I WANT to see it happen. I'd rather watch more interesting, different match-ups. As much as it'd be nice to destroy either PSU or scUM on the national stage, having OSU prove itself to everyone by beating Washington/Clemson/Colorado would be better (doubt we'd be paired against Bama 1st round).

Also, the TV $ will come into play in some way & somehow I don't think PSU is going to draw big ratings. Just a hunch.

I remember back awhile ago when someone said they'd love it if it was 1. Bama 2. OSU 3. Clemson 4. PSU

They said, wouldn't it be great if somehow PSU got past Bama. We'd have the chance to crush them in a rematch...this time for the Natty.

This scenario is very unlikely (esp. the whole beating Bama part). But, it's definitely more feasible than a couple weeks back when Louisville & A&M stood in their way.

People will throw a sh*t fit if scUM gets in over Wisconsin. They'll be so much fighting on ESPN the site may go down. Because, you know "A team that doesn't win their conference shouldn't get in" or "Remember back in 2014 when...[insert TCU/Baylor argument] or my favorite... "That wasn't a 1st down!" (not really an argument having to do with the CFP but someone will fit it in somewhere).

I can live with that!
