The Ohio State men’s basketball season is right around the corner. The upstart Buckeyes will take on Walsh in exhibition play on November 8th. To help get you ready for tip-off, The Buckeye Battle Cry will be bringing you Player Previews leading up to the beginning of the season. Today, we profile senior Jake Lorbach.

The Buckeyes have a full, talented and young roster this season. Of the 13 players on Thad’s roster, 11 are freshmen or sophomores. There is only one senior on the squad, reserve Forward Jake Lorbach.

Jake Lorbach

Hometown: Elyria, Ohio
High School: St. Edward
Position: Forward
Year: Senior
Height: 6-7
Weight: 215

High School Achievements

– Four year letter winner in basketball and two year in volleyball at St. Edward
– Averaged 6 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game in senior year
Jake didn’t bring any eye-popping numbers to Ohio State. He did bring multi-sport athleticism and a grind-it-out approach to the game to Columbus.

OSU Awards/Accomplishments

– Played in 8 games each year, sophomore and junior seasons, averaging 1.7 minutes per game

– Career high in scoring his sophomore year when he scored 6 points (3-3 FG) vs Bryant.

Strengths

Jake’s main strength has got to be his tenacity and his “team first” attitude. He has seen, to be generous, limited playing time in his career at Ohio State, but when he gets into games, he if “full-go” on the court.

Weaknesses

I can’t honestly ascribe any weakness to Jake’s game since he doesn’t get enough playing time to determine what his full range of capabilities are or aren’t.

Role on the Team

With the influx of young, very talented players this season, Jake’s role will continue to be what it has been the last three years. He will be the gritty scout team player that pushes OSU’s starting rotation to not slack off in practice. After all, someone has to run the plays to give Buckeye players “the look” for the upcoming opponent. There is something to be said for that in making a team contribution.
