2014 NFL Week 9 Open Thread

Brandon Weeden is preparing to make his first start as a Cowboy. I am about to feel your pain, Browns fans.

Like I said last week-- totally useless organization. The NFL needs to fold the two '95 expansion teams. Neither are worth a damn...and in 18 years in the Air Force, I've yet to meet a fan of either franchise. That's extraordinary.
They were crappy decisions to put teams there, for several reasons, all of which were bad. There was the idea that they needed to saturate that part of the country with sports teams. The NHL tried that too. Nothing says ice hockey like Carolina, Atlanta, and multiple teams in Florida. Yeah, that didn't work. There was also the idea they could recapitulate the "small market identity" of the Green Bays of the world by picking smaller venues. This after giant markets like Houston and LA couldn't keep teams. Yeah, that didn't work. Then there was the idea that they needed expansion in the first place, because there were so many fans in other markets clamoring for their own team. Yeah, that didn't work. And THEN there was the idea that you should set it up so that FA would make the teams competitive immediately (and they were, artificially) in a desperate attempt to snag fans on the hook...without any plan, or give a shit, for the long term success of the franchises, both of which are train wrecks in less than 20 years. Yeah, that didn't work.

It just occurred to me that I've seen more people wearing South African national rugby team jerseys at a Kroger in Alabama than I've seen Carolina or Jacksonville apparel anywhere.

Weeden, Sanchez, Fitzpatrick...I don't understand how some of these obvious failures continue to get tread.

because there are really only about 7 good QBs in the NFL right now (Manning, Manning, Brady, Rivers, Stafford, Brees, Rapistberger) and a handful of serviceable QBs (Wilson, Kaepernick, Smith, Romo, Foles, Palmer) and the rest are basically crap.
