Over 1,600 athletes tested this past weekend at Nike SPARQ Combines held in Massillon, Ohio and Philadelphia, including some outstanding prospects that have already emerged on BCS schools' radars. While several established names came out and validated their status over the weekend, two offensive linemen put forth historic performances in terms of the SPARQ Rating (in its seventh year of existance) and could see a dramatic uptick in their recruitment over the near future because of it.
On Saturday in Massillon, Ohio, offensive guard Ben McGowan (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) became the first offensive lineman to break 100 in the SPARQ Rating. The 6-3, 300-pounder entered the event as a player who was starting to emerge on his own, recently pulling in his first offers from Bowling Green and Toledo and also having confirmed for Notre Dame's junior day on Feb. 26. McGowan said Saturday he'd like to hear more from any Big 10 school, and after posting his 100.53 SPARQ Rating, which included a tremendous 4.51 shuttle and 42-foot power ball toss, McGowan should see a significant spike with colleges as news of his performance begins to circulate.

It's now Combine-Time, and Raw Talent Sports conducted their first camp last Sunday in Cleveland, with over 175 prospects in action. Several of the performers already hold Division-I offers, and there were others with ones on the way. Who stood out above the rest? Bill Greene filed this report.

Saturday at Orlando's Dr. Phillips High, Chad Simmons of Scout.com and Rusty Mansell of 247sports.com will be co-hosting an MVP Camp for a statewide group of college football prospects.
There have been invitations sent out for this camp, but once the invited players have been accounted for, the remaining spots are open to anyone who shows up on Saturday, but the limit for the camp is 350 players.
"It's invite-only, per se, but of course, coaches will bring an extra player or two and the numbers will grow," Simmons said. "I don't know if we'll get 350, but if we've got 250 (pre-registered) then we'll take the next 100 kids who show up.

Last weekend, the University of Michigan hosted the Best of the Midwest camp. Many of the state?s best prospects were there. Here is a look at the players who had standout performances.
Detroit King running back Dennis Norfleet
Norfleet was simply dynamic. He worked out as a wide receiver to showcase his skills and he was unstoppable all day. He routinely made defensive backs look bad and showed exceptional hands. Norfleet, who already has an offer from Michigan State, did nothing to hurt his status as one of the top all-purpose running backs prospect in the nation.
Flint Powers defensive tackle Danny O'Brien
The 6-foot-3, 278-pound O'Brien is a powerfully built prospect that plays with good leverage. It would be easy for a player with his strength to simply bull-rush opposing linemen, but he used several quality moves to keep the opposition off balance. O'Brien currently has scholarship offers from MSU, U-M and Tennessee.
Farmington Hills Harrison tight end Devin Funchess
Funchess is listed as a tight end, but he is going to have to add some weight to play that position in a conference as physical as the Big Ten. On Sunday, the 6-5, 205-pound Funchess looked more like one of the better wide receiver prospects in the Midwest. If he's able to add 20-pounds and keep his speed, the sky is the limit. U-M has offered.

Yulee's Derrick Henry checked in at just under 6'3 and 229 pounds. He is a freak athlete for his size. Big athletes like this are hard to find and there will be plenty of chatter about what position he ends up at. Right now he is a RB and he has the feet and athleticism to thrive there down the road. He was clocked in the 4.6 range which is very impressive for a sophomore, let alone one with this size.
Diggs has visits in mind
Potential five-star athlete Stefon Diggs (Good Counsel, Md.) has more than two dozen early verbal offers and is wide open in terms of favorites at this point.
“I am pretty much wide open,” he said. “There are no real favorites. I did take an unofficial visit to Maryland and I liked it. My mother liked it a lot, too.”
Diggs added that he plans to visit Florida, Florida State, Miami and South Carolina during a trip south this spring. He also plans to check out Michigan where his former teammate, four-star Class of 2011 cornerback Blake Countess signed last recruiting cycle and will attend the Nike Football Training Camp at Georgia in April.
“I’d prefer to play my college football somewhere where it’s warm- down south,” Diggs said.
Diggs also said he would like to hear from Oregon, LSU and USC. The Trojans, along with the Canes, Gators and Noles, were his favorite schools growing up.
Diggs projects as a cornerback or wide receiver in college.
Future247 linebacker/receiver Deontay McManus (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) has more than two dozen verbal offers, including Oregon, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Boise State. He wants to play receiver in college and the Ducks and Cowboys are his top two. He plans on attended a junior day at Maryland in March and will take a trip to the West Coast this summer to see Cal and USC.
Safety D.J. Singleton (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) recently picked up an offer from Buffalo. The Bulls join Miami (Fla.) and Rutgers in offering the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder.
Stefon Diggs, WR/CB, Olney (Md.) Good Counsel
Diggs is one of the top overall prospects in the country and was dominant at times when he played receiver for his team during the event. The 6-foot, 190-pounder has excellent ball skills and explosiveness and quite frankly is a big play waiting to happen on either side of the ball. More than two dozen programs have offered. Diggs is open, but says he’s leaning toward heading to the South to play college football.
Deontay McManus, ATH, Baltimore (Md.) Dunbar
McManus projects best as a linebacker, though he continues to insist he’s a wide receiver. His upside is not as high at receiver, but he’s good enough to compete there, especially in this setting. More than 20 programs have verbally offered him a scholarship. He says that Oklahoma State, Oregon and West Virginia are his three favorites because all have said he can play on the offensive side of the ball.
South Florida Express secondary vs. South Florida Blur offense
Rather than just single out one particular matchup from the team expect fireworks when the Express secondary led by Tracy Howard (Miramar, Fla./Miramar), Deon Bush (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus), Amos Leggett (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), Willie Bailey (Hallandale, Fla./Hallandale) and Sojourn Shelton (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) goes up against the Blur offense led by Watch List members Angelo Jean-Louis (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Central), Jaime Wilson (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Central), Fred McRae (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna), Herb Waters (Homestead, Fla./Homestead) and Class of 2013 prospect Kelvin Taylor (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Day).
Adding to the fun of this matchup is the fact that both teams are comprised of the top players from Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties which brings the element of personal pride and bragging rights. Both teams have remained relatively quiet regarding each other thus far but once competition begins expect a lot fun battles to develop.

One of the top events in America is the ESPN Rise Elite-11 Quarterback Camp, and this Friday the regional event will be held in Columbus, at Ohio State University. There are several top quarterbacks registered to participate, including several with offers.

Lots of talent at Columbus Elite 11
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Between last week's Stanford Elite 11 and Friday's Elite 11 regional camp here in Columbus, Ohio, you could argue these two events clearly produced the finest quarterbacks of the spring camp and combine circuit, and even produced a few surprises. For the most part, the high-profile guys were as advertised and a few underclassman had strong showings.
For what it is worth, in a workout setting we place a premium on two areas -- footwork and accuracy. It is also critical to see how a player adapts and adjusts in a foreign setting and how quickly it happens. For the most part, Friday's prospects were a pretty well-groomed group of signal callers. There were anywhere from five to seven QBs on hand that will end up being top 25 players at their position for 2012.
Contd....
A strong group of quarterbacks, highlighted by three of the nation's top prospects was at Ohio State for the Elite 11 tryout on Friday. We also had a few lesser known prospects really help themselves...
The Elite 11 at Ohio State featured many top quarterbacks from around the country. Here are our choices as the top performers from the day.
The ultra-popular ESPN Rise Elite-11 Quarterback Camp was held at Ohio State Saturday afternoon, and the event drew some of the best in America. There were over 80 participants, including several committed recruits, as well as prospects with offers. Who looked the best?
Austin Appleby, Canton (Ohio) Hoover ? Unranked
Appleby has nine offers to date but he has yet to land an offer from a BCS program. That could soon change if more programs are able to evaluate him in person. Appleby is a big strong passer that brings good zip on his footballs. He lumbers a little bit and doesn?t look as comfortable on the move but in the pocket when he can stand and deliver, he was impressive on Friday.
Keep an eye on Kyle Kempt out of Massilon (Ohio) Washington as the potential top quarterback in Ohio for the class of 2013. Kempt has size you can?t teach at 6-5 and he showed some real promise throughout the day as a passer.
The class of 2014 was represented on Friday in Beaver Falls (Pa.) Blackhawk?s Chandler Kincade. Kincade does not look like a freshman in high school from a physical standpoint. He already possesses size and is filled out. Kincade also looked like he belonged from the production side. If Kincade continues to develop, he has a chance to be special.
