2010 OSU Player Rankings

MightbeaBuck

with hat in hand
It's early in the season, so not too much can be read into this, but I find it enjoyable...

Quarterbacks
Three weeks into the season, Terrelle Pryor is ranked 23rd of quarterbacks with at least 40 attempts. Pryor has a quarterback rating of 158.62, just ahead of Tolzien (Wisconsin) with 156.50, and just behind Moore (Boise State) with 156.82. The leader, McElroy (Alabama), has a rating of 200.03. Persa (Northwestern) is in second with 192.63. Other B10 QB's currently ahead of Pryor are Chapel (Indiana) (170.05), Stanza (Iowa) (168.28), and Robinson (Michigan) (158.64).

Total Offense
Terrelle Pryor is ranked 16th with 880 total yards. Pryor is just ahead of Threet (Arizona St) (858), and just behind Robinson (Troy) (882). The leader, Robinson (Michigan) has 1,230 total yards. The only other B10 player ahead of Pryor is Persa (Northwestern) with 898 yards.

Field Goals
Devin Barclay is tied for first place for both total points and for completion percentage with Taylor (Troy). They both have completed 8 of 9 attempts.

Kickers
Devin Barclay is the number two scoring kicker with 38 points. Number one is Bailey (Oklahoma St) with 39 points. Tied for the third spot are Taylor (Troy) and Bullock (aTm) with 33 points.

Kick-off Returns
Jamaal Berry is 24th with 140 yards on five returns, a 28.0 ypr average. As usual, the competition is close: 25 more yards and he'd be in the top ten - or 25 less yards, and he'd be out of the top 50.

Interceptions
Chimdi Chekwa is in a 27 way tie for fourth, with 2 interceptions.

I think his rating will go down after a couplet more games.

With the exception of Boise St's Moore, I think most of them will drop, especially Persa's, McElroy's, and Michigan's Robinson. While Pryor's QB rating will drop also, I don't think it will drop as much as most of the 20+ QB's that are above him do.

You may be right, but my expectation is that Pryor's QB rating will be higher at the end of the year than it is now.

Moore's rating is 158.82. My dyslexia flaring up again I guess. :!
...Stanza (Iowa)...
Stanzi.
Wish I could say I went from doing song lyrics to working on this, but that hadn't been the case. :smash:

I really hope your prediction is correct, and that mine is wrong. I think that playing teams that, for the most part, have better defenses than we've seen so far, will pull him down some. Not a lot, and definitely not as much as the other quarterbacks listed ahead of Pryor will be pulled down. I could see him going into the top ten, but not top three.

I think it should be about the same, maybe a lil bit higher.. His completion percentage should continue to go up and his rating could go up if he can be mostly mistake free after the OU game.

...

It's the digit to the LEFT of the decimal point that's the issue.

Moore is ranked 22 with a rating of 156.82 (156.824)
Pryor is ranked 23 with a rating of 156.62 (156.617)

Pryor has not really had a huge "number day" yet. You'll know what I mean when it comes, and it will. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he had multiple days with a rating higher than any he's had to date.

As for the quality of defenses: Miami is back to being Miami, passing defense wise. As there are only 2 other teams in the comparison so far, they pull the average way up. It is arguable that TSUN and Minne have pass defenses every bit as suspect as the two lesser defenses we've already faced.

Pryor is doing what he needs to do.

I assume the point of all this is the Heisman Trophy conversation. If he wins games, and gets us to the National Championship game, his talent, numbers, and big plays he will make along the way will be what wins him the Heisman.

I didn't like the impatient pass against OU at the end of the first half, and that was Heisman numbers driven I believe. At the very least he was, or maybe the coaches were, being greedy.

If he wins games with his legs or his arm. And this team does what it looks like it is capable of, I would be in shock if he didn't end up hoisting the trophy in New York, by giving his team the hoist the crystal football in Glendale.

The only other thing I see is that our kicker is scoring way too many points. That hopefully will get better as the season goes on.

There is no real point. The point is I like seeing where Buckeyes are in the ratings.

With Pryor, remember, the highest "rated" QB rarely wins the Heisman.
By season's end, I'd like to see our running backs get rated among the top rushers. I'd like to see our defensive backs rated among the top interceptors. :banger:

Barclay's point total is just fine with me, though it would be nice if more of his scoring came from PAT's instead of FG's!!

A couple of more games into the season, with the meat of the schedule getting started this weekend against Wisconsin. What's changed?

Quarterback Ratings
Three more weeks into the season, Terrelle Pryor has moved up 17 spots to be ranked sixth of quarterbacks with at least 80 attempts. Pryor has a quarterback rating of 170.47, just ahead of Mallet (Arkansas) with 170.30, and just behind Garcia (South Carolina) with 170.99. The leader, Moore (Boise State), has a rating of 183.28. Persa (Northwestern), is the only B10 QB currently ahead of Pryor, now in fourth with 173.27. The only other top ten B10 QB is Cousins (Michigan State) is in ninth place with a 167.55 QB rating.

Total Offense
Terrelle Pryor has dropped seven spots, and is down to 23rd with 283.83 yards per game. Pryor is just ahead of Vittatoe (UTEP) (280), and just behind Carder (Western Michigan) (286.2). The leader, Moniz (Hawaii) has 388.00 yards per game. B10 QB's currently ahead of Pryor are Robinson (Michigan) (369), Persa (Northwestern) (326.33) and Chappell (Indiana) (290.20).

Field Goals
Devin Barclay is in a five-way tie for fifth place for field goals with 1.83 per game. The leader is Hrapmann (Southern Miss) with 2.33 per game.
Barclay is in a six-way tie for fourth place for total field goals with 11. The leader is Hrapmann (Southern Miss) with 14.
Barclay is in a two-way tie for second in completion percentage with 0.917. There is a seven-way tie for first, all with perfect kicks so far.
It's interesting that three of the top eleven in the "field goal" category are in the B10.

Kickers
Devin Barclay is the number two scoring kicker with 10.83 points per game. Number one is Bailey (Oklahoma St) with 13.00 points. In the third spot is Phillips (Utah) with 10.60 points.

Kick-off Returns
Jamaal Berry dropped one spot to 25th with 338 yards on 12 returns, a 28.17 ypr average. As was said earlier, the competition is close: just five more yards per return and he'd be number five. - or three less yards, and he'd be out of the top 50.

Interceptions
Chimdi Chekwa is in about a 50 way tie for fourth, with 2 interceptions. No individual Buckeye comes close to leading in the "interception" category, yet tOSU as a team is tied for third in the country for total interceptions. Sweet!

Ohio State is 20th in rushing offense, while not having a running back placing in the top 50.
Ohio State is sixth in scoring offense, while not having a quarterback in the top 30 in passing yards.
Kind of a neat combination, I think.

Stanzi's actually the highest rated Big Ten QB at 176.85, in third place right now.
