It's been a while since hockey was relevant in Chicago. Hopefully this break will help. Too bad Tavares isn't in this year's class.

i think chicago is on the right track. they have a very young and deep org. i look at guys like cam barker, toews (say it like taves [ish i suck at phonics]) and a handful of other guys. the problem is outside of those guys and the young core (seabrook, duncan keith) they dont have much. of late chicago has shown willingess to spend some money which is good. but, im not sure they used the money so wisely (bulinwall, bondra)

With the number of unrestricted free agent cenaters out there this year, we won't need to trade for one. Hopefully we will be able to pay enough to get one here. A back end loaded contract would be best because after 07/08 we will have over 12.2 million to play with after Foote and Fedorov's contracts are up.

JO,
Is there a hope in hell of any type of package including a #7 pick in this years draft that can bring a top notch center to C-bus??
some people seem to think that it is realistic to get one of the 08 free agent centers in a deal. guys like thorton, marleau, richards etc. i see this as a huge gamble as the first rounder and one top end guy min would have to be shipped along with a role player to match the salaries. then you are only having his services for one year, you still have to resign the guy.

you have a handful of teams who are looking for a top flight center so from the ufa view point of guys like briere, drury and what not.

by math youve got about 28 mil spent plus your rfa to sign. (honestly im off my game today and cant spit that out without looking it up)

this offseason will be interesting. two things i know, this team needs to visit the p word and if they dont foote and feds will be shipped at the deadline.

and honestly this will be the first season 07 08 that i think feds will hurt us. his salary is a killer this year. something the last 18 months to me has been fine as hes had a huge impact on some of the younger kids. to a smaller extent foote also.

dispatch article on prospect kyle turris

Kyle Turris didn't realize it at the time. But his broken wrist at 15 was just the break he needed to figure out his hockey future. The injury prevented Turris from playing hockey most of the fall and early winter (2004) in his native Burnaby, British Columbia, but it afforded him a rare opportunity to travel during the season.
And where did he want to go? To the far-away world of U.S. college hockey.
"We hit Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan on one trip," said Bruce Turris, Kyle's father. "We'd been to lots of Western Hockey League games (in the Canadian Junior system), but this was our first taste of (NCAA) hockey. And I have to say, we were all really impressed."
Kyle Turris was a little more succinct.
"It was awesome," he said.
Turris, a classic late-bloomer, decided on that trip that on his way to the NHL, he first wanted to be a Wisconsin Badger.
His NHL destination will be decided June 22, the first day of the NHL entry draft in Nationwide Arena.
And Turris won't have to wait long to hear his name called. The high-scoring, play-making center is the No. 1 rated North American skater and almost certainly will be a top-three pick, perhaps No. 1 overall.

London Knights forward Patrick Kane is the top-rated prospect for the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, according to International Scouting Services's final report released this week.
Kane led the OHL in scoring with 145 points in 58 games. He played in the OHL all-star game and helped lead the Knights to the Western Conference final, where they lost to Plymouth in five games.
The 18-year-old Buffalo native won a gold medal for the United States at the world under-18 championship, where he was also the tournament's top scorer with 12 points.
Left-winger James Van Riemsdyk of the U.S. Under-18 Program moved up on the list to the second spot, while Burnaby centre Kyle Turris is ranked third

OK what gives? Is your list missing some people? This mock draft has Columbus taking some guy named Jakub Voracek, who isn't even on the list:

No. 7, Columbus -- The Blue Jackets have had a spotty draft history, hitting a few homers and making a few blunders along the way. But there will be nothing but confidence when the host club announces Jakub Voracek as its first-round selection. Voracek, a Czech winger, has been one of the biggest climbers in the draft and has earned his accolades with a dominating second half of the season. He was absolutely electric in the QMJHL playoffs, averaging two points per game. The Blue Jackets are happy with last year?s first-rounder from the QMJHL, Derick Brassard, so there will be no hesitation to mine the Quebec league yet again.
