Kyle Reifers, 23, is a PGA Tour rookie who grew up in Muirfield Village.

Kyle Reifers has been outside the Memorial Tournament ropes as an autograph-seeking kid and was inside them four years ago as a caddie for Jay Haas. He'll enjoy the ultimate experience this year. Reifers, 23, a PGA Tour rookie who grew up in Muirfield Village, has been given a sponsor's exemption to play in the Memorial, tournament officials announced today. The tournament is May 31 through June 3 at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
"It's a great thrill," said Reifers, a Watterson High School graduate who qualified for the tour in December on his first attempt. "Hopefully (the exemption) will be a one-time thing and I'll get in on my own (in the future). But right now I can't be more grateful and appreciative of the opportunity to play. Growing up there, there's no bigger tournament than the Memorial."

Officials also announced qualifying exemptions for two-time major champion John Daly and 10 others: former Ohio State golfer Craig Kanada, Jason Gore, Billy Andrade, Brad Faxon, Shigeki Maruyama, George McNeill, Johan Edfors, Charl Schwartzel, Jeev Milka Singh and Yong Eun Yang.

More on the Memorial

Phil Mickelson withdrew from the Memorial Tournament this morning after 11 holes because of a wrist injury. "I'm not really sure (if the injury is serious)," Mickelson said. "I've never really had an injury before, so I'm not sure. I couldn't grab the club, and I couldn't swing. I hit a wedge on 2, and it got really aggravated."
Mickelson, who finished in the top 10 in his past two Memorial appearances, made the turn at 1-over-par 37. He parred the 10th hole at Muirfield Village Golf Club before carding a bogey at the par-5 11th and withdrawing.
"It started hurting a couple days ago," Mickelson said. "I was hitting a lot of chip shots out of the rough at Oakmont, and I think that kind of aggravated it."
