IM getting really cracked up reading on alot of the UT message boards about how we are just a bunch of classless redneck hicks.....which of course is absolutely hysterical coming from people from TEXAS my god is there a bigger hilljack state??

Is that a rhetorical question or did you actually need to know that the correct answer is "West Virginia?"

Great first post, BTW. I'm sure the best way to put that "classless redneck hick" stereotype to rest is to call someones' home a big hilljack state. :roll1:

I saw a link a few weeks ago that had statistics like dental health and obesity ranked by state. I wasn't surprised that West Virginia was at the bottom in several, but I was surprised how big a margin there was between last place and second to last.

What does "hilljack" mean?

I would say that the first definition is the generally accepted 'correct' one in Ohio. Hillbillies are to the south of the Mason-Dixon Line, Hilljacks are in the north.

I think your questioning what a hilljack actually is proves that the term is almost exclusively used in the Midwest, and that Texans, therefore, cannot be hilljacks.

It's like one of those SAT questions:

If all West Virginians are hilljacks, and some hilljacks are hillbillies, are all West Virginians hillbillies?
