College basketball coaches are lining up to get Chris Thomas interested in their schools.

Last weekend, at the Kentucky Hoopfest in Louisville, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Denver dazzled recruiters. He's already been offered scholarships by Ohio State, Michigan State, Arizona and California heading into his junior season at Maryland's Princeton Day Academy.

The 16-year-old transfer from Montbello High isn't in a hurry to make a decision.

"I tell them I'm going to wait until after my 12th-grade season and that I would love to come to their school," said Thomas, ranked No. 3 on ESPU's Terrific 25 for the Class of 2013. "I don't want to commit early and have a better opportunity come along."

Arizona Leading for 2013 Star Chris Thomas
By Adam Zagoria on May 06, 2011

Chris Thomas, the No. 4 player in the Class of 2013 according to Rivals, is currently on an unofficial visit to Arizona.

And if trends continue, Thomas could be playing his college ball there, too.

Thomas holds offers from a Who?s Who of elite programs, including Kansas, Kentucky, UConn, Memphis and Arizona, but Westwind Prep coach Gary Trousdale said Arizona is currently working the hardest.

?Chris has expressed his interest in Arizona from Day 1,? Trousdale said. ?Right now they are clearly No. 1 in his mind. I think something drastic would have to happen to turn that upside down.?

The men?s basketball coaching staffs at the universities of Louisville and Kentucky have been scouting a lot of prospects from the Class of 2013 during the first 10-day evaluation period, and one of the best is Chris Thomas.

Both schools have checked out the 6-foot-5 shooting guard for the Colorado Hawks; he?s a Denver native who also has played high school ball in Maryland and Phoenix.

?I like them both,? he said last week during the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis. ?I like Kentucky, I like Kansas, Arizona, and I liked Louisville a lot when I was there.?

Thomas is ranked the No. 5 prospect in the ?13 class by ESPN.com and No. 6 by Scout.com and Rivals.com. He played in the Kentucky HoopFest last year and made an unofficial visit to U of L last fall.

While he?s ?open? to many colleges, Thomas has offers from U of L, UK, Arizona, Colorado and Xavier among others.

?I?m nowhere near making a decision,? he said. ?When I know, I will know. I hope soon, but you never know; probably not until the end of my (senior) season.

?I am real interested in visiting Arizona, (Kansas) and Kentucky.?

Thomas said he ?likes the atmosphere there at Louisville,? and as for UK, ?they?re Kentucky.?

Five-star recruit Chris Thomas has reopened his search nearly six months after giving Xavier a verbal agreement for the Class of 2013.

The 6-foot-5 guard practiced at Chipola College in Florida last year after enrolling midyear. Before that Thomas, a gifted athlete with Jordan Crawford-esque talent, bounced around from school to school and reportedly earned his GED at Chipola.

Now he?s seeing his other Chipola teammates be recruited?and he wants to be part of the action. Thomas could still end up at XU, but I don?t know how likely that would be. For now he?s on the market again per his own choice.

In a story we published April 6, Chipola assistant coach Patrick Blake said Thomas chose Xavier because of his relationship with former assistant coach Rasheen Davis (now at Manhattan College), the Musketeers? style of play and coach Chris Mack?s track record with successful guards like Tu Holloway and Crawford

?He?s an unbelievable scorer,? Blake said then of Thomas. ?From the outside he can knock down shots but he also does a great job in the open floor. He has great floor vision and is a great passer, and he?s always making the best basketball plays for the team.?
