Evaluation

July, 2010: Bennett was terrific at finishing in transition, from drop off passes created by dribble penetration or popping for the open three. Bennett dunks with power in traffic and all clear paths to the rim. He uses his strength and athletic ability to rebound and block shots in and out of his area as well. He ran the court extremely well and was very active on both ends of the floor where he played with great energy and effort. Bennett used his college ready body to score 22 points against the Long Island Lightning.

One to watch

Anthony Bennett (Beckley, W.Va./Mountain State Academy)
2012, PF, 6-7, 225 pounds | Team: Canada
Bennett was a beast all tournament long. Kyle Wiltjer (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and Khem Birch (Quebec City, Can./Notre Dame Prep) dominated play, but Bennett had his moments as well. Bennett has a chiseled physique with a great combination of power and finesse. He can also step out and nail the 3-point shot or go inside and impose his will. He's explosive around the rim and uses his thick frame and impressive lift to convert in traffic. Bennett is a definite high-major 4-man who will make an immediate impact at the next level.

Anthony Bennett Likely to Sign Late
By Adam Zagoria on July 19, 2011

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. ? Wherever Anthony Bennett went at last week?s Peach Jam, high-major Division 1 coaches followed.

The 6-foot-8 Canadian from CIA Bounce and Findlay Prep has the makings of a big-time college player, but he likely won?t sign until the spring period in 2012.

?As far as schools and his decision I think he wants to wait until late so he can make sure of coaching situations, other players going in, etc.,? said CIA Bounce coach Mike George. ?He doesn?t want to be a kid that commits and later changes his mind.?

George said Pitt, West Virginia, UConn, Florida, Missouri, Marquette, Ohio State, Kentucky and Washington were expressing the most interest in Bennett, the No. 3 power forward in the senior class according to Rivals.

?His upside is tremendous because the better his ball-handling gets, the more unstoppable he becomes,? George said. ?He shoots it so well from behind the arc and he has tremendous athletic ability. And you know he?s only scratched the surface of his ability.?

Anthony Bennett Lists 10 Schools
By Adam Zagoria on August 09, 2011

Anthony Bennett, the much sought after big man from CIA Bounce and Findlay Prep, listed on Twitter 10 schools he is considering.

The 6-foot-8 Bennett listed Kentucky, UConn, West Virginia, Oregon, Pitt, Florida, Missouri, UNLV, Washington and Ohio State.

The No. 3 power forward in the Class of 2012 per Rivals, Bennett will likely sign late, according to CIA Bounce coach Mike George.

?As far as schools and his decision I think he wants to wait until late so he can make sure of coaching situations, other players going in, etc.,? George said last month. ?He doesn?t want to be a kid that commits and later changes his mind.?

He added: ?His upside is tremendous because the better his ball-handling gets, the more unstoppable he become. He shoots it so well from behind the arc and he has tremendous athletic ability. And you know he?s only scratched the surface of his ability.

TOUGH DECISIONS AHEAD FOR ANTHONY BENNETT
August 18, 2011 by NBE Blogger

One of the elite prospects in the Class of 2012 is FIndlay Prep forward Anthony Bennett. The 6-foot-7, 235-pound manchild terrorized rims and opponents all summer long playing with CIA Bounce on the AAU trail or Team Canada in international competition. NBE first identified Bennett as having the potential to be one of the top players in the Class of 2012 when he was playing for Mountain State Academy during the 2009-2010 season. Wrapping up that initial year in the United States after coming down from Brampton, Ont. in Canada, Bennett showed he was developing at a rapid rate at the 2010 National High School Invitational to close the season.

Bennett?s progress has only continued from those first viewings of him in action. Quite frankly, Bennett is a beast. He is every bit of the size he?s listed at and uses his strength to dominate the paint. He loves contact and has no problem finishing right through it inside. Not just a banger, Bennett also has a clean jump out past the three-point line, can put the ball on the floor, and runs in transition like a wing player. He has exploded on the national scene this past spring and summer and it?s easy to see why with his combination of power and skill. Bennett is only scratching the surface of his huge potential and is already drawing comparisons to the likes of Larry Johnson and Carmelo Anthony.

While the national recruiting pundits may have only picked up on Bennett recently, college coaches have been recruiting him vigorously for more than two years. Those efforts have paid off for a luck list of nine schools that currently makes up his list of leaders.

?My top nine list [is] Florida, UConn, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pitt, Oregon, Washington, Ohio State [and] UNLV,? Bennett told NBE earlier this morning. ?The ones that I listed are all trying hard and recruiting me [hard], that?s why it?s going to be a hard decision to make later on.?

BENNETT HOLDING LIST AT 9 SCHOOLS

There was some recent speculation that Findlay Prep senior power forward Anthony Bennett was in the process of narrowing the list of schools he was considering. Last night Bennett refuted those rumors to NBE saying he is holding steady with his current list of schools.

?Right now I?m just going to leave it at nine,? said Bennett. ?They are all good schools and it?s very hard to cut the list down.?

Tickets to any game this season at Great Prices!

Bennett told NBE that the schools in contention for his impressive talents remain UNLV, Florida, Washington, Ohio State, Kentucky, Pittsburgh (tickets), West Virginia (tickets), Connecticut (tickets) and Oregon.

On the court Bennett is a beast. He is every bit of the size he?s listed at (6-foot-7, 235 pounds) and uses his strength to dominate the paint.

Bennett has stayed consistent with his plan to commit late in the process and sign in the spring. He currently has no visits planned and gave NBE his reasoning for looking to sign late.

?I think it gives me more time to see what?s going on with these colleges and coaches and players,? he said.

In the meantime Bennett will have his sights set on a big year with a powerful FIndlay team that will be a big draw wherever they play nationally this season ahead.

?Findlay is nice right now,? said Bennett. ?Everyone is working and pushing each other to get better. Hopefully we can win a national championship this year.?

Bennett Wraps Up Home Visits
By Adam Zagoria on October 04, 2011

Anthony Bennett?s mother, Edith, will finish up home visits in her native Canada with Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, following an afternoon meeting with West Virginia coach Bob Huggins and assistant Larry Harrison.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Bennett is considering Kentucky, UConn, Florida, Pitt, Washington, UNLV, Oregon, West Virginia and Missouri, according to Mike George of CIA Bounce.

Bennett, a Toronto native playing at Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep, won?t sign until the spring and will not take any official visits until after Findlay Prep?s season.

As for which schools will get visits, George said, ?Not sure. He comes home this weekend for [Canadian] Thanksgiving, so we will figure it out then.?
