West took a first-quarter lead when quarterback Charles Rogers connected with wide receiver Tayler Bontrager on a 77-yard pass down the left sideline with 2 minutes, 26 seconds left.

Two offensive possessions later, Rogers took a low snap, dodged a handful of Wahlert defenders and sprinted in for an 11-yard touchdown to pace West to a 14-0 lead.

"We didn't play a perfect game, but we won 35-0," Sauser said. "Charlie Rogers and Tayler made a couple of big plays early in the game, and Charlie got things going with his feet again which really helped us out. We kind of felt if we got up early, we'd be OK."

City High's A.J. Derby may steal the attention, but West High has a star in the making behind center as well. Rogers, a sophomore, shined on the Trojans' next possession. On third-and-12 Rogers drilled a 17-yard pass to Bontrager. A few plays later, on third-and-13, Rogers rolled right and hit Bontrager again for 18. After rushing for another first down, Rogers' magic finally ran out when a third-and-11 pass skipped short of Bontrager, killing the drive at the Xavier 39.

By BK...Rogers' coach talks about how he progressed from DB to part-time QB to the full-time starting QB...his coach thinks he would jump at the opportunity to play at OSU...Iowa State has verbally offered.

He drove from Iowa to Columbus for the Wisconsin game, which was played the same day as Iowa hosted mich. in primetime. That should probably show you how interested he is in OSU and that he's open to leaving the state.

From the Iowa site...Iowa State has offered as an ATH...played WR at Oklahoma's camp last week...also camped at Iowa...visited OSU last year and is going to 7-on-7s at Illinois, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Iowa City athlete Charles Rogers picks Iowa State Cyclones

The Cyclones have picked up their 11th commitment for the Class of 2012 in Charles Rogers, a 6-foot-1, 180-athlete from West HS (Iowa City, Iowa).

Minnesota and Northern Illinois also offered.

Recruited as an athlete, Rogers is a dual-threat quarterback for West, finishing his junior year with 1351 yards passing and 689 yards rushing with 15 total touchdowns.
