'11 OH DE Brian Mihalik (Boston College Signee)

ESPN: Ohio juniors adding offers

Junior defensive end Brian Mihalik (Avon Lake, Ohio) started his first high school varsity football game last Friday. He received his first written scholarship offer a few days later.

"I got an offer (on Wednesday) from West Virginia," Mihalik said. "They faxed it to my school."

Mihalik, who is one of several Ohio defensive ends on the ESPNU 150 Watch List, was verbally offered by the Mountaineers during the summer when he attended their football camp.

The 6-foot-6 and 225-pound Mihalik said he is interested in West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia and Cincinnati and all have been in contact in the past couple of days.

Would love to see OSU offer...OSU could use a couple of SDEs in this class...

How would you compare Mihalik to the big DE's from Moeller and Dublin? Plus I'm curious to see if Rock is a SDE or DT? I see on of Hayes or Miller being weakside, so I'm in agreement we need two SDE's. Seems like there is quite a few big defensive lineman for '11 in Ohio.

Any of Carrico, Rock or Mihalik could end at SDE or DT...but I haven't seen enough film of any of them to say which I think has the best chance to earn an offer or where they project at the next level...but the BPRT will be tracking all three as the season progresses.

Ohio DE favors West Virginia

Defensive end Brian Mihalik (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) has just one scholarship offer to this point. He landed a verbal offer from West Virginia at their football camp during the summer and the Mountaineers followed up with a written offer in early September.

Many other schools are showing interest including Wisconsin, Michigan, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Boston College and Virginia.

"West Virginia is my favorite for now since they have offered," Mihalik said.

He plans to go to the Pitt at West Virginia game Nov. 27 unless Avon Lake is still in the playoffs at that point. The Shoremen are 8-3 with a second-round playoff game Friday against Toledo St. Francis DeSales.

The 6-6, 225-pounder has 30-plus tackles, including five sacks in 11 games.
