Evaluation
April, 2010: This long and active post has tons of upside. Leek runs the floor well and can finish above the rim with a clear path. He did a great job of beating the opposing post players down the floor for easy baskets. Leek has pretty good upper body strength but needs to add strength to his lower body in order to hold his low post position. In the post he is a work in progress scoring wise but did show a nice jump hook over his left shoulder and he attacks the rim when he receives a drop off pass in the lane. He has good not great hands at this point but his length and bounce around the basket make him a factor because he rebound on both ends and block shots on or away from the ball although he goes for shots fakes very easily. Leek%u2019s defense is ahead of his offense but his best playing days ahead of him but skill development and strength are key factors in him reaching his potential.
June, 2009: Deng is an African import from the Sudan. He is the brother of Leek Leek, an athletic wing in the 2010 class. Leek is very raw offensively. His offensive game is pretty much limited to putbacks, tip ins and dump offs coming from penetration. He really has yet to develop a back to the basket game so far in his young career. He is an able rebounder. He has a nice muscular body and is a solid athlete so he can be effective inside rebounding with decent effort. Leek runs the floor pretty well also. Defensively he is solid. He is an active shot blocker inside and is decent at taking away the rim from his opponents. He is also pretty good on the ball where he uses his size and strength to try and neutralize who he is guarding. Deng is an intriguing prospect with a very good upside.
June, 2008: Despite being only 15 years old, Deng already has a good build and pretty strong frame. By the time his body is done growing and developing he is likely to have a phenomenal physique. He also has pretty good coordination and agility for a player of his age and size. He runs the floor well and is an above average athlete. He is still learning to play the game in the paint and makes many mistakes that are common for young big men (like bringing the ball down). However, he still finishes inside fairly well, especially when matched up against competition his own age. Perhaps the most advanced part of his game at the moment is his footwork with his back to the basket as he already looks comfortable making a variety of pivots. He has also started to develop a jump hook over his left shoulder, although it is still somewhat raw. Defensively, he an established shot blocker as he protects the rim and does a nice job of maintaining the plain of verticality when leaving his feet so that he stays out of foul trouble. Overall, the young big man has a very high ceiling.

Shot-blocking phenom Deng Leek has turned into a star at the LeBron James Skills Academy.
Leek got our attention with his constant activity in both drills and the scrimmage. With his mobility and tremendous length, he is a constant shot-blocking threat and is very difficult to score over. When he does not block shots, he is in position to contest them. He runs the floor extremely well and finishes above the rim from drop-off passes created by dribble penetration. Leek is a raw prospect who has great upside, but his hands need work but he should greatly benefit from the intense skill work from the Academy. Leek is definitely one to watch if his offense catches up with his defense. At this point in his recruiting, he likes Charlotte, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Clemson and Washington.
