Huge FSU lean. FSU has long had a presence in Georgia, and they've been on this kid since his freshman year.

Pulling a kid out of Atlanta is one thing, going to South Georgia is another bird. It's something that UGA struggles with because most of these kids have stronger ties to Florida schools than Georgia/Alabama schools.

But we're after him too. A great kid and talented player from a good family.

I agree. South Georgia is a different beast compared to the Atlanta area. Plus Thomasville, specifically, is only about 30 miles from Tallahassee.

Most of my friends in Thomasville are UGA fans, but overall, the area is about 40 percent UGA, 40 percent FSU and the other 10 percent Florida, Auburn, GT.

It would be a shock if OSU could pull this kid. Although OSU recruited Thomasville HS DT Brandon Thompson a couple of years ago and from what I was told he and his father really liked Tressel and OSU. Distance was too much to overcome, though, and Thompson ended up at Clemson (which also has had good success recruiting the area).

My friend's son is a classmate of Drew's at TCC. Next time I talk to him I'll try to find out what the buzz around school is. But TCC is a pro-FSU school and I imagine the Seminoles will be tough to beat.

Rivals $ - Ray Drew makes surprise visit to FSU junior day

Drew likes the proximity of FSU (30 min. from home) & that the coaches haven't talked to him about changing positions... He also likes that the coaches are excitable & energetic... It was also good to spend time with some of his ex-teammates that are at FSU, incoming recruits, & some of the alums that were on hand like Christian Ponder... No leader, no time table...

Georgia was his first (verbal) offer at the end of his sophomore year & they've been coming in ever since... He's open to everyone & will be camping as much as finances will allow to raise his profile & see some schools... Recently impressed the scouts & won the strongest man award at an event held at Rutgers... No leader, no time table...

Thomasville?s Ray Drew has a calling other than football
5:05 am March 9, 2010, by Chip Towers

AJC Top 10 prospect Ray Drew hasn?t exactly been burning up the junior days circuit. But he gets a pass. He?s been busy saving souls.

In addition to daily workouts in the Thomas County Central weight room and track practice ? he?s a state-ranked thrower ? the 6-foot-5, 240-pound, bluechip football prospect is a licensed minister. He works out of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Thomasville and spreading the Lord?s word is his life?s passion.
