Straight talk with Curt Evans
By Smith / 4.3.10

Hollywood (FL) rising soon to be senior wide receiver Curt Evans is a young man who is efficient with his language. That doesn?t mean that he has little to say. However, when he does have something to communicate, he tends to get straight to the heart of it with well chosen and meaning-filled words. You see, Evans is well aware of the opportunities his football talents have made available to him. He is equally aware of how easily those prospects could be lost if he doesn?t do things the right way. Too many people have contributed to his good fortune to allow himself the convenience of selfishness or the ease of apathy. No, Curt Evans has goals to accomplish both for himself and for those who care for him. I had the chance to speak with Evans about some of those opportunities and goals and here?s what he had to say.

Curt Evans surprised by Michigan offer
By Smith | 5.6.10

Hollywood (FL) Chaminade WR Curt Evans has established himself as a player to watch in the sunshine state class of 2011. His receiving numbers from last season were over 600 yards with 11 touchdowns to go with 2 more scores off of punt returns. Those numbers alone are enough to get the attention of big time college football recruiters. His work this off season is just adding fuel to the fire and taking his recruiting interest to a whole other level.

The news hit Curtric Evans (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna Prep) like a ton of bricks.

Courtesy of Evans FamilyCurt Evans is thriving on and off the field at his new school.

Following his sophomore year, his mother was pulling him out of South Broward High (Hollywood, Fla.) in favor of the more distinguished Chaminade-Madonna College Prep (Hollywood, Fla.).

"I didn't want to go, I'll be honest," Evans said, adding that another family member was in his ear saying it was a bad move. "I had a cousin that went there and he didn't like it."

The 6-foot, 185-pound Evans thought he was doing just fine where he was at. He was a standout do everything on the football field, and he held a 3.8 GPA in the classroom.

However, his mother thought he could do more, and she proved to be absolutely right.

"Chaminade is a much better academic school, and when the opportunity came, my mom jumped on it."

Now college recruiters are jumping on Evans.

As a junior, the standout receiver caught 27 passes for 800 yards and 14 scores, and also added two punt returns for touchdowns on two attempts. Nebraska and Duke are the latest schools to offer a scholarship, joining the growing list that includes the likes of Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss, South Florida, Stanford, West Virginia, Virginia and Vanderbilt. The next school to offer could be Notre Dame.

"I plan on visiting a lot of schools in the summer," he said. "I know we're going to Ohio State for sure, and coach said we're going to try and make it to Michigan and Notre Dame. I know we're going to go back to Florida and also see Florida State. By myself, I want to see Stanford, Vanderbilt and South Florida."
