Kevin Grooms called it the most thrilling experience of his life. Stunned McArthur players still might be trying to get past the shock.

Forced to backpedal before fielding a deep McArthur punt, Grooms sped 74 yards for a touchdown with 15 seconds left that completed No. 12 South Broward's furious comeback to celebrate a 27-26 triumph Friday night.

Hollywood - The hope had been to kick it over the head of South Broward playmaker Kevin Grooms.

The only problem for McArthur was that Grooms went back to get the ball.

Once he had it in his hands, Grooms took off toward the left side, split through the Mustangs' special teams unit and scored on a 71-yard punt return to lift South Broward to an emotional 27-26 comeback victory over McArthur on Friday night.

The touchdown came with 15 seconds remaining and gave the Bulldogs (5-0, 1-0) a crucial District 16-5A win. Now they, along with the nation's top-ranked team, St. Thomas Aquinas, remain unbeaten in the district.

Grooms Making a Name
October 12, 2009 by Luke Stampini

Kevin Grooms does a little of everything for his South Broward football team. The electric 2011 prospect returns punts and kickoffs, sees action as a running back, and is asked to take on the opposing teams top receiver at his cornerback position.

ESS was on hand to witness one of the best performances of the week. Athlete Kevin Grooms impacted the game in every way imaginable. On defense he had 4 tackles and 3 pass breakups. On offense, he had a scintillating touchdown. He tallied over 200 yards of total offense and the game winning punt return. He pretty much did it all for South Broward as they pulled the upset over cross-town rival McArthur High. Grooms is one of the best players for the class of 2011 that ESS has covered this fall. We will continue to monitor him each week. Look for his offer sheet to grow by the time spring football rolls around.

Florida State Recruiting Update 10.28.09

A 2011 prospect that is blowing up:

ATH Kevin Grooms, from Hollywood, Florida. He goes to South Broward High School. Measurables are 5'10'' 160 and I'd say that he runs in the low 4.4, if not 4.3. Speed, speed, speed, and even more speed. Extrememly explosive. He really came onto the football scene against McArthur High School, where he had over 200 yards of total offense and returned a punt for the game winning score. He has had something ridiculous like three straight games of 200+ total offensive yards. Grooms has that special attribute - one step, and he is at top speed. Charles Fishbein (of Elite Scouting Services) believes the kid projects best as a CB. I don't know, as I would rather have him with the ball in his hands. He is receiving interest from FSU and Tennessee, and there are some rumors that both schools have offered him. He is open, but he does like FSU.

Quick hitters from prospects in the Class of 2011.

? There is a new member of the ESPNU 150 Watch List. Cornerback Kevin Grooms (Hollywood, Fla./South Broward) is a player that some scouts in South Florida are comparing to Class of 2010 Under Armour All-American Lamarcus Joyner. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder picked up an offer from Florida State recently, according to ESPN affiliate NoleInsider.com. The site also reported that the Seminoles offered Watch List prospects Lamarcus Brutus and Keelin Smith (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./Treasure Coast), high school teammates of Class of 2010 Under Armour All-American linebacker Jeff Luc.
