Are they recruiting him as a LB? I assume they don't need anymore FB's considering they have 3 freshman FB's already on scholarship.
Sometimes you take a kid who is an excellent football player and who fits in with your overall on-field and off-field philosophy, and then you worry about finding a position for him later. At first glance, Zack seems like one of those kids.

That being said, none of the current FB's on the roster (A. Homan, Z. Boren, Martin, Hyde) has any experience, and at least two of those players (Z. Boren and Hyde) will probably end up at other positions (LB and TB, respectively).

Looks good on film, but I'm curious about the level of competition. He trucks 3-4 would-be tacklers at a time...leads me to believe opposing defenses leave something to be desired. I like his vision as an LB, though. Not the fastest reactions, but keeps his head on a swivel.

Yea I dunno. I don't see the speed or explosion from the LB position that Klein has.

I didn't say he IS Storm Klein, he just reminds me of him. He hits guys in the mouth on purpose, he trucks guys, and he plays to the whistle refusing to go down or let someone else go down easily. He's not as fast as Storm but he explodes through guys just as well.

Never really thought of Hyde as a FB, thought he was a TB all the way. I guess you're right, of the others only Martin is limited to the FB position. In addition to the possible postion switches you mentioned, if Adam Homan is truely 6'4 then he might be a little tall to be a FB.

Anyway, looking at Zwinak's measurables and offer list, he definitely merits an offer.

I liked what I saw on his film for a future MIKE. Tough, strong, takes good angles, good in traffic, and adequate athleticism. He doesn't explode through the ball carrier like Klein, and I don't think the sideline-to-sideline speed is there either though. He can also be a good FB at the next level and if his athleticism doesn't stack up, he will work out there. Can't say I was blown away but he seems to be a solid 3 star type that has the potential to surprise you in college. Either way his offer list speaks for itself.

Agreed. I think a lot of people are confusing "fullback" and "potential short yardage back" (Hyde). Carlos doesn't look anything like a prototypical tOSU blocking FB. If we snag this kid, he is two years behind Martin, and can at least provide depth if he doesn't outright win the job.

Bucks, Lions to battle for Zwinak? -

By Bill Kurelic, NN Recruiting Analyst

[email protected]

June 1, 2009

Joe Paterno and his staff are working the state of Maryland hard for their 2010 recruiting class, just as they did in 2009 when they had great success in the Terrapins? home state.

One of their targets is Frederick (Md.) Linganore star Zach Zwinak, who visited Penn State on Thursday.

"I went out there with my dad," Zwinak said. "My dad had not had a chance to visit Penn State and meet the coaches, so we went there on Thursday. It went good. We talked to a good amount of the coaches, all of them that were there. We talked to Joe Paterno and Larry Johnson."

Zwinak had been to Penn State previously, including the NIKE Football Training Camp in State College on May 2.

Continued...

"From what (Linganore) coach (Rick) Conner tells me, Ohio State offered," Zwinak said. "He said Ohio State is going to offer me. They stopped by awhile ago and watched tape. I'm supposed to talk to them (today). I'm going to call them and find out more."
