NAPERVILLE - Geneva wrestler Frank Boenzi is upset with himself about a mistake he made at the IHSA Naperville North Sectional, but it’s a mistake he can live with.

After all, Boenzi is headed to Champaign.

Despite suffering a championship match loss, a fate that many area wrestlers met Saturday, Boenzi will head to the IHSA State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the University of Illinois as the lone Vikings representative.

Boenzi, the Vikings' heavyweight, pinned West Aurora's Juan Perez at the 4:42 mark to advance to the title match, before losing his balance and allowing Naperville North's Mike Albanese to gain position – a mistake that cost him the match.

Nevertheless, Boenzi’s second-place finish qualified him the state meet, and that was exhilarating enough for the sophomore.

From the OSU site...hearing from the likes of OSU, Purdue, Illinois, Colorado, Iowa, Indiana and Arizona. Knows Garrett Goebel and might be visiting Illinois this weekend for their game against Minnesota or in two weeks for their game against Indiana.

Boenzi

he is #7

This kid runs incredible!!! watched him play last night & have never seen a 290 pound Jr. with his speed... the kid has lot to learn about Football (not a jab, it is just that as a jr in high school there is a lot to learn) and when he does LOOK OUT!!!

If he treats his body right this young-N could be playing ball a long, long time!!

Do you see an offer?

Tough to tell... May have to be a repeat at camp... I'm sure we'll hear more in the near future, but I'd bet he's high on our DT board...

I have family in the Geneva area that has seen him play and they all say that he moves phenomenally well for his size, uses his wrestling skills as leverage, and is flat out nasty... Sounds like a good combination for a DT...

With a thin year in-state at DT we are going to need to look out of state...I like the wrestlers at DT, and this kid seems to be ultra athletic for his 290lb size...

I don't really know what to look for when watching DTs but I was really impressed with what I saw. Seemed like he had pretty good speed for a 300 pounder and a good motor as well.
Maybe a camp offer? If Garrison Smith is headed to UGA, maybe that will impact the offer probability.
