Most likely a token thread, but Tate has shown interest in Ohio State and Ohio State has expressed interest in the state of Georgia the last few years.

If i had to guess...I think at the end of the day this kid will not attend college. He will more than likely be a top 3 round draft pick in baseball. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in the first round. Kid is a freak! Plays for Purple Hurricanes and they are usually among the best every year. Played for Team Georgia this past summer as a SOPHMORE! First time a sophmore has every played for the Team Georgia Junior Team! Is a five tool player who covers some serious ground in centerfield. Amazing bat speed with power to all fields.

From the Georgia site. Tate says that his top schools are Georgia, USC, Florida, Texas, and Arizona State. Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina have offered, while USC has offered for baseball. He would like to play both sports in college if he doesn't decide to go pro in baseball.

By Simmons...Michigan has offered and he is considering them because he is interested in playing QB in the spread options offense but he has not decided what position he wants to play at the next level. He is also interested in playing baseball.

Tate picks baseball with Pads over UNC football - MLB News - FOX Sports on MSN
Donovan Tate, the Padres' first-round pick in this year's amateur draft, signed a minor league contract with the team worth $6.25 million on Monday night.

The deal prohibits Tate from playing football until at least 2012, according to one major league source.

Tate had planned to play baseball and football at North Carolina before signing with the Padres. He is the son of former NFL running back Lars Tate. "We knew all along that football was not where his heart was," said Grady Fuson, San Diego's vice president for scouting and player development. Tate is represented by agent Scott Boras, who is advising No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg in his negotiations with the Washington Nationals.

Tate had been in camp with the Tar Heels but left after a few days.

"We had it done before that," Fuson said. "There were some administrative things that had to be done to make them comfortable."
