Quinn Lands Another SEC Offer

By Phil Kornblut
Fort Dorchester junior LB Robert Quinn (6-4 255) was offered last week by Alabama according to his coach Steve LaPrad. Quinn also has offers from USC, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida and Tennessee. He is also getting interest from Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Georgia. LaPrad said recruiters from USC, Clemson, Florida and Alabama have been in to check on Quinn, and Tennessee is coming in. LaPrad says two other junior Patriots to watch are DB Durell Mitchell (6-0 175) and DB Tony Mack (6-2 175). LaPrad said Mitchell "loves USC." And Mack is getting early interest from USC, Clemson, Florida and Tennessee. LaPrad said Tennessee is very interested in Mack.

Robert is focusing mostly on USCarolina, Auburn, Maryland, Tennessee and Florida. However, he does not claim a favorite and says he is open to other schools.

My Take: Stud. I met Robert with '07 5-Star DE Carlos Dunlap at the SCVarsity Media Day. He definitely passes the look test and, in my opinion, is the better "football player" of the two. He does not have Dunlap's freakish athleticism, but has better instincts.

Defintiely looks to have all the athletic ability and vitals to be a big playmaker. Would love to land him. Everybody talks of our depth at DE, but we need AT LEAST 1, probably 2, in 2008 depending on who mooves inside. Robert Quinn would be a welcomed addition.

Quinn Has Two Junior Day Visits Set

By Phil Kornblut
LB Robert Quinn (6-4 250) of Fort Dorchester has set two junior day visits and is considering a third. Quinn will attend USC's gathering March 3rd and will go to Auburn the following weekend. He is also thinking about going to Tennessee for junior day. Those three have offered Quinn along with Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida, Alabama, Virginia and Maryland. He is also drawing interest from Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Georgia. Quinn said Sunday there's no favorite. "I'm just waiting, I'm not in a rush," he said. Quinn is close friends with Patriot defensive end Carlos Dunlap Jr. who signed with Florida earlier this month, and he kept a close watch on the recruiting process through Dunlap. "I learned to not listen to all the people who want me to go to their favorite school," he said. "I should just go where I feel the best. It would be neat to play with him again. I'll take my trip down there one day and see if I like it. Who know, I might play with him again." As for the in state schools, Quinn said he had not favorite between the Gamecocks and Tigers.

Film.

My Take: The last clip in this series shows his serious upside. Robert is not as explosive as former teammate Carlos Dunlap, but he is a more disciplined football player with massive potential. The last clip shows a flatbacked burst, a sharp change of direction, and excellent closing speed...a glimpse of what could be.

Robert Quinn Update

By Phil Kornblut
Fort Dorchester LB Robert Quinn is out of surgery this afternoon and reporters are waiting at the high school for a briefing from head coach Steve LaPrad who is serving as a spokesman for the family. Darren Goldwater of ESPN Radio 910 in Charleston talked with LaPrad just after the surgery concluded. The coach said the surgery went well and a small tumor was removed. The tumor was causing swelling an a blockage. It will be Wednesday or Thursday before doctors know if the tumor is cancerous. According to Phillip Bowman of the Post and Courier, Quinn apparently had been suffering from headaches and fainted four weeks ago. He played against Summerville last Friday night and recorded six tackles. Saturday morning he fell in his bathroom and hit his head and that was when he was taken to the hospital.
