Steve Schott is expected to garner plenty of attention from colleges for the use of his kicking leg. However, Ohio State has already secured the commitment from one kicker for its 2008 recruiting class in Westerville Central?s Ben Buchanan.

What that commitment means for Schott?s chances to end up with the Buckeyes remains unclear. Stacy, through, has no worries that his star kicker will end up at a quality Division 1-A program.

?I think there?s going to be a lot of interest in Steve,? Stacy said. ?Normally, what you see from colleges is that they?ll take a kicker once every three or four years. I think Steve?s going to get plenty of interest. Whether or not Ohio State is in that situation where they need a kicker, I don?t know.?

Saturday Roundup: Massillon tops McKinley; Padua, Gilmour win - Cleveland High School Sports News ?€“ The Latest Breaking News, Audio Interviews and Scores from The Plain Dealer

Massillon 23, Canton McKinley 20

With neither team having playoff aspirations they decided to extend their season by playing into overtime in the 116th meeting between the two storied rivals. Massillon quarterback Chris Willoughby set up his game-winning 1-yard sneak by completing a 20-yard pass to Devoe Torrence on a second-down play. McKinley led, 17-14, in regulation but cornerback D.J. Spencer intercepted a pass with about three minutes to go and kicker Steven Schott kicked a game-tying field goal from 41 yards. The Bulldogs also had a 20-17 lead in overtime on a 35-yard field goal by Andrew Gage, but failed to cover Torrence out of the backfield.

By Crabtree...committed to Ball State.

Confirmation.

This is the second kicker not named Ben Buchanan to be called the best placekicker in the state in the last two days...the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called Kevin Harper the state's top kicker the day he committed to Pitt and now the front page of the Ball State Scout site says "Ohio's top Placekicker is a Cardinal"...yet both Rivals and Scout have Buchanan rated above Harper and Schott. I know I am splitting hairs...I just found it funny.

Steve Schott knew scholarship offers to kickers weren?t an everyday happening for Division I college coaches. So, when he was fortunate enough to get one he liked, he wasn?t about to sit around and wait before accepting. And when Ball State University came calling with one this week, the Massillon senior kicker heeded his own advice and jumped at the chance.
